    • I looked at the number of frames lost in WC Finals - however White came out 2nd and Davis 3rd.

        • You see clearly I am an idiot as I missed a final somewhere for poor Jim Jim.

          The list should have looked:

          HENDRY - 115
          WHITE - 108
          DAVIS - 98
          THORBURN - 59
          EBDON - 53
          WILLIAMS - 50
          DOHERTY - 48
          J HIGGINS - 43
          TAYLOR - 41
          REARDON - 36
          STEVENS - 36
          GRIFFITHS - 34
          A HIGGINS - 33
          DOTT - 32
          JOHNSON - 30
          PARROTT - 29
          MANS – 25
          SULLIVAN - 22
          SPENCER - 21
          SELBY - 18
          MOUNTJOY - 18
          BOND - 18
          MURPHY - 16

The numbers being frames lost in a crucible final. Oh well, despite my incompetence it is 2 points to Dantuck and 1/2 to Alex0paul. Well done all.

          • No worries chasmni - if you include Reardon from before 1977 that would boost him up a bit also...

            • Round 188

              ROUND 188

Have 3 quick questions worth 1/3 a point each.

              1) Who has come the closest to overcoming the Crucible Curse?
              2) Who was the last first time winner to defend his title?
              3) Who was the last first time winner to defend his title twice?

              Have added Q3?!

              • 1) Doherty / Johnson.... gonna go Doherty.

                2) Gonna be Reardon or Spencer.... Gonna say Spencer.

                3) As its not Reardon, and Fred and Walt exchanged there first wins, it must be Pulman.

                  • From memory,

1: Joe Johnson, losing 18-14 in the 1987 final.
2: John Pulman I think won the last championship of the 1950s (his first title) and then retained it when it was resurrected in 1963 or 4.
3: I think Joe Davis is the only player to have done this.

Correction to no.3: John Pulman also retained it the following year in answer 2, so it's him again.

Did neither Rearden nor Spencer retain first time round?

Can't remember 100% but I don't think either of them did!

1978 John Spencer First Round 8-13 vs Perrie Mans
1979 Ray Reardon Quarter-finals 8-13 vs Dennis Taylor

Yep looks like The Statman has a point for this round....It was Joe Johnson getting to the 1987 final for Q1 and then John Pulman in the 60's for Q2 and Q3.

                            Another question anyone else?

                            • Sorry - robbed chasmmi of 1/3 point for Q3.

                              The Statman = 2/3
                              Chasmmi = 1/3

I think I answered corectlly to question nr. 1 and 2 before The Stateman. And maybe I deserve some points or half a point. Check it Dan.
