Congratulations Mal. Yes, Shaun Murphy was not in fact no.1 at the start of this season, but was after the NI Trophy. Thank you for saving me the hassle of dealing with ¼s!
Indeed, these were the players to knock out the defending Crucible Champions in,
1978 Perrie Mans beat John Spencer 13-8
1979 Dennis Taylor beat Ray Reardon 13-8
1980 Steve Davis beat Terry Griffiths 13-10
1981 Steve Davis beat Cliff Thorburn 16-10
1982 Tony Knowles beat Steve Davis 10-1
John Parrott reached the second round or better every year between making his debut in 1984 and 1995, those were his first round victims, year by year.
Who became the first player (and, as far as I'm aware, still the only one) to reach the top-16 despite never previoulsy having reached a ranking quarter-final?
Congratulations kellie-text. Yes Hamilton lost in the second round at the Crucible in 1997 but it was enough to get him into the top 16. His first ranking quarter-final was in the third event of the 1997-98 season.
