  • 'throw down the gauntlet' means set a challenging precedent for someone to try and meet or indeed better.

    • Yes lagermike, that was my understanding.

So presumably the phrase comes from the 'other' meaning of gauntlet, which brings us a phrase 'to throw down the gauntlet' which equates to such a challenge.

Rather like throwing your hat into the ring, apart from the fact that I know the meaning of 'hat'.

      • Exactly.

So what we have now is:

        Fiendish Challenge.

Clue 2: Think of a synonym of challenge is this context, and a synonm of fiendish, and see if what you are left with is an anagram of anybody's name on this board.

I have not included C's question because I am not sure who wins the point. Would you please update this when you get a chance?

                      • ROUND SEVENTY-ONE

In 2007, the top 16 seeds all make it through to the second round.

So we have, from the top of the drawsheet, 1 v 16, 9 v 8 and so on.

The winner of each match happens to be the player with the best record at the Crucible in the years 2000-2006. Number of titles; if that is equal, finals; if still equal, semis; if still equal, quarters. If still equal, their overall Crucible frame-win percentage will decide.

The losing player's frame score will be the number of frames he won in the last match he lost at the Crucible (if this is more than the winner, make it a decider).

What does the result sheet look like?

Oh #!@#!@# well i'm not changing it now. Its wrong anyway.
