  • It's to do with the crucible.
You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. The red, needless to say, veers off course, and the future of the woodlouse is uncertain. - The Statman

He, togther with Reardon, White and Doherty has a match win success rate of 66.7% at the Crucible.

I knew it would be something like that! Unfortunately, my copy of that list of each players record that Statman produced for us at the BBC site has gone missing! Do you have a link to get it back by any chance?

          • Oh yes I see! That should be very useful in future!

BTW Cyril, do you know what is meant by 'Rep Power' and the green box which says '(insert name here) is on a distinguished road'?

If you posted "Cyril, I'm going to send you £1,000, me old mate", I'd think, what a nice post and click on the rep button to add to your points, thus getting you on an even more distinguished road.

I think thats how it works anyway.

                          ROUND ONE HUNDRED AND ELEVEN

I was playing snooker, and on the neighbouring table a game of billiards was in progress.

There was a shot played identically on both tables! By which I mean, the balls which moved on each table were exactly the same colour, and started and finished in exactly the same position, and took exactly the same path.

Obviously, there were other balls on the table that were not common to both, but, the balls that moved were the same colour in each case.

One of the shots was a foul and the other was a valid scoring shot; the score for the valid shot was the same as the penalty for the foul.

                          What happened?

                          • The shot was the white glanced a red, and potted the yellow.

                            On a billiards table - 4 points
On a snooker table - foul 4 points (he was going for the yellow in the first place)

                            • You were on the blue, missed the ball on, hit a red/potted it and went in off -5 points

Guy playing billiards, hit a red, potted it and went in off - 5 points

                              ??

An unexpected answer! I was imagining the guys playing billiards had a white and a spot-white, rather than a yellow.

But I'll give you a point for that seeing as it's the season of goodwill.

                                ROUND ONE HUNDRED AND TWELVE

What about the answer I was thinking of?
