    But my answer doesn't involve a foul shot when a ball is potted.

      OK well I read the question to say "in consecutive shots" which I appreciate it does not say exclusively.

      In which case, the answer is surely, infinite!

      One red remaining, you have a free ball, you have a straight yellow off its spot to the corner pocket. Your intention is to play the yellow, screw back to the same spot to take the yellow again.

      You do this, and, as you're walking round the table to assess your options, you catch a ball with your hand. A foul – 1 scored, 4 away – also giving your opponent a free ball.

      He is in the same position that you were in, and plays the same stroke. He then walks round the table and, just as you did, he catches a ball with his hand.

      The needle returns to the start of the song and we all sing along like before.
