I don't know where to pin point it with Selby, the combination of his safety and break-building skills usually result in better ranking tournament success than what he is having. But as other users above have said, he sometimes plays stupid. Not only do I recall that plant that he had to make in the second last frame against Higgins, but he missed frame ball against Day at the Grand Prix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YazP2L0euXw
I would have my cue hanged up if I were to miss such a shot.. If someone is not capable of using his skills or advantages when needed, then maybe he is just overrated and will drop out of top 16 by a couple of years. Remember, Robert Milkins and Quinten Hann were top 16 once upon a time, and Joe Perry is WC semi-finalist, but no one thinks that he is top 4

You may argue that 2007 WC finalist should not be written off. But then again Matthew Stevens has reached the final twice and the semis a further three times. He is not up to that standard though. The fact I'm trying to point out that we can't judge players by their past performances or a couple of strong matches. Mark has the talent, but this sport surely needs more than just talent for success..

Robert Milkins was never in the top16. His highest ever ranking was 21.

Agree on that, but you brought up yourself, that he didnĀ“t make one visit clearances any longer, in fact he made a lot of those last season, that you ment something different was difficult to tell. My answer goes to Looki as well.
