The election was noteworthy for a controversy over the awarding of Florida's 25 electoral votes, the subsequent recount process in that state,
and the unusual event of the winning candidate having received fewer popular votes than the runner-up.
Special thanks to Jeb Bush (George W.s brother), Republican Governor of the State of Florida, USA, 2000.

Interesting to imagine what would have happened everywhere in the world, especially in light of 9/11,
had Al Gore, subsequently a Nobel Peace Prize winner, been elected instead.

I wonder how it would affect 110sport.tv's coverage of the qualifiers?

Well apparently Dubya advised NASA to consult with the "british snooker champion" about their meteor defence programme after seeing O'Sullivan on TV win the world championship while he was on a state visit to Britain in 2004. Bush believed that a snooker player would have a natural instinct for knowing how to deflect a meteor away from Earth and ordered NASA to implement anything O'Sullivan recommended. NASA have spent $50bn on the project despite many of the scientists voicing serious concerns about O'Sullivan proposals (his first proposal was scrapped as uneconomical because building a "Death Star" would have cost ten times the GDP of Earth). Let's face it a massive planet killer hurtling across the galaxy is a bigger threat than global warming so we are very lucky Bush won and Al Gore didn't!

Hi Janie - am perservering with this forum (not like the good old days) but it is one of the few places where you have a voice!
It's just some of the posts - take TP's for example - what is that all about?? I remember TP as being very informative with some great posts a while ago - with everybody trying to guess who it was - must be withdrawal!!
Back to topic - can we assume then that Mr Hearn will be acting on the reccomendations of the SPA if he were to become Chairman? Or will he have his own agenda?
I agree with a previous post in that I don't care who is running it as long as they put the welfare and earning potential of ALL snooker players first and foremost and introduce more prestigious tournaments with better sponsors ( NOT like the Pro Challenge events). They must also do far more with regard to grass roots level snooker, perhaps making National Governing Bodies answerable to WSA and all providing the same opportunities for up and coming snooker players.
I hope ALL the pros with a vote can be bothered to get up off their backsides and attend the meeting and make their views known and vote for the good of snooker. I'm hoping the phones are red hot with lobbying at the moment.

Hearn is the man -look at the evidence

He has transformed darts with even the low ranked pros earning more than low ranked snooker pros
The prizefighter series on Sky-a big hit with the punters
He seems to get the sponsors for all his events no problem-something that snooker cannot do at present
He took snooker to far flung areas in the 80s and made those events successful

There are a few who will say that the WC will go to Sky or leave this country but ask yourself this-If you were a pro and had the choice of playing for huge cash prizes within the next few years and having more comps or listening to more promises of jam tommorrow while the pro game goes down the pan with less comps with poor or no sponsorship then what have you got to lose?
I think the answer is pretty obvious-the only stumbling block is getting the pros to vote at the agm in sufficient numbers-the time to boot apathy into touch is now!!!!!!!

It’s funny how someone who didn't want to touch snooker, not even with a barge pole, now wants to grab it with both hands.

Mr Hearn doesn't seem to be somebody else's man and if the SPA imagine such a thing I think they are in for some cold showers. I don't think Hearn is SPA's man. Actually, if the SPA were a little better organised than they look and their statements and actions were a little bit wiser, I'd say the exact opposite!

Do you work for the WPBSA? If not you should get your job application in quick. I'm sure your closed and negative mindset would be welcomed with open arms.

I don't necessarily think the opposite I just get frustrated when people try and shoot down any prospect of change or development, without offering any justification - just like the WPSBA have done for years

Well yes people dont like change. Personally, I dont give a damn who runs the game so long as they have snookers best interests above personal financing or at least on a level par and there are more ranking tournaments.

people are genunally worried that barry hearn will try to glam up snooker in a cheap end of the pier way .

ive never liked the guy myself but if he comes forward with a genuine intrest and a genuine game plan then the sport would be stupid not to listen but until then its only a pipe dream what he can do for snooker.
