the BBC Would terminate the WSA Contract if they had no players to show .

with darts there was a split but if every player stuck together the BBC wouldnt have a choice they cant show the World Championship with nobody playing. in 2000 the split could happen however years of **** from the WSA would meen today it would be a mass two finger salute for Rodney Walker and the WSA Flops.

Well I don't think so. That is always just a matter of opinion depending on how much knowledge one has of the relevant issues and the people involved, and I think you will have difficulty sustaining your opinion or assertion

Everyone who has ever been on the board has been berated at one time or another, including Barry Hearn.

The players themselves, and their advisors, have a big collective responsiblity to ensure that they get the best out of THEIR collective clout, and it seems that most of them don't embrace it, don't know how or even realise what a unique organisation THEY have.

It doesn't matter who the Chairman is, he will always be on a hiding to nothing, as he will have no influence over the demographics of the game and it's environs

If that sort of attitude is common no wonder the game is going downhill.
The Board and in particular The Chairman can and should drive the business with greater promotion, marketing, networking and inclusion of all people involved in the game instead of remaining aloof and unapproachable and making audiences feel like criminals for getting excited at a match!!
Watching the darts, as said before, and also the FULL O2 arena for the tennis, in which the spectators remain quiet during play, it just shows what some clever marketing, promotion and GETTING PEOPLE TO PLAY the game at grass roots level can do. I don't see why snooker should be any different. Who would go to watch snooker, buy the merchandise etc. etc. if not the club players and the aspiring players.
The whole attitude has got to be changed and that comes all the way down from the Chairman of the Board.

                  Quite right goldengirl.
                  Snooker Farming *RANT ALERT!*
The sport, thanks to haughty indifference, has let at least two generations slip by.
At the very grassroots level snooker has to thrive to survive.
For starters... Clubs have to stay open and be readily available.
That means attracting a whole new participatory audience that finds the game as fascinating and challenging and fun as we all do.
The only way to grab the attention and attract the interest necessary for snooker's success is the media... print, TV, Web.
Kid's are hard-wired to video games and the web... even moreso now than to TV...
video games have eclipsed even movies for eyeballs and revenues.
TV and computer monitors are merging. Downloading of movies will very soon replace hard copies like DVD and Blu-ray and just as streaming content will replace TV programs as we have known them.
Snooker MUST fit into that delivery system NOW.
That the governing bodies have not made coverage of all sanctioned qualifiers and tournaments an "OF COURSE!" is well, RETARDED.
And forget about Eurosport or BBC... snooker doesn't have to kowtow to their "make it or break it" regime any longer.
HD broadcasting is readily available and cheap. People can watch snooker at work, in places of leisure, in Korea on cellphones!
It's a "Get Rich Slowly" paradigm though. Build audience by creating exposure and "star" attraction players... get people playing and personally investing their time and money in the sport and then put on a series of exhibition and competitive tournaments which the carefully nurtured worldwide fans will gladly pay to experience.

Basically, we have to become "Snooker Farmers".

                      YES!

But it's always good to have a Plan "B".
Sorry, I forgot to mention an alternative approach which would be to limit Snooker Club membership to an even more select few...
provide better VSOP and cuban cigars and let the less able players rest in the more luxurious comfort of Connolly leathers on all the
wingback chairs... padded like a prestigious coffin.

And I was just starting to totally agree with you and take you seriously - until the second post.
We have got to make the game more attractive to youngsters. With no smoking in clubs now it should be easier to get them in as most clubs have lost the smoky dark image they always had.
Read an article somerwhere about a club working with schools & police to encourage kids to play snooker - can't remember who was running it. But that is exactly what all the Governing bodies should be doing.
                        More players - more spectators!!

My second post was a "tongue-in-cheek" backdoor plan.
The one that's gotten our sport into this horrible predicament.

                          Let's go with Plan "A".
The changing of the Old Guard is the chance we've been waiting for...

If the current administration is Old Guard, then Barry Hearn must be Ancient Guard, because he was there before them.

By the way, what did he do back then that was so much better than today to make people wanting him to come back?

One other thing, why do people expect Hearn to invest in the grass roots of snooker when he has a history of caring only about the top players of a sport?

Well, he was (still is?) a manager. And it makes a successful business to back top players and promising young talents rather than someone who has been 11 yrs with highest rank of 54. That's what I would do if I was a manager. I don't think one can draw any conclusions about his investigations in the grass roots based on that.

I just finish reading Clive’s book and I must say that beyond the first few chapters it was not a very interesting read (same old - same old). It is obvious that the Board's track record shows it has not operated with snookers best interests in mind. Through the years, the progression of the WPBSA reminded me of the song Won’t Get Fooled Again. Perhaps Hearn will become the second coming of Tommy.
I am just curious, with the internet connecting the world, could the players not email there vote to a secure site?
