  • Ssb - the boy from brazil

A remarkable story from India where Igor Figueiredo of Brazil has reached the final of the IBSF world amateur championship.

Until April of this year, he had only ever played snooker on a ten foot table as is common in Brazil.

But today he defeated Yu Delu of China 7-4 in the semi-finals and will face former professional Alfie Burden, a 7-3 winner over Phil Williams, in the final.

South America has never produced a snooker professional but should Figueiredo win tomorrow he will be eligible to join the main tour next season.

That's quite an achievement in such short time.

He has only dropped 9 frames, out of 36 played, in the knockout-stage. Was beaten by Anthony MacGill 4-0 in the groups tho.

Is this the guy a lot of people on here said would never make it due to only playing on 10 foot tables?

This is the first time I saw Figueiredo play, and he's pretty good. He can make some good long pots, break-building is OK and his safety's not bad either. His cue power is above average. I would still be surprised if he could beat Burden in the final, but getting there is quite an achievement already.

            It's just a fairytale!
have a look on global snooker for the photo of his very impressive tattoo.
He has another on his extremely large calf with the name of his daughter Stephanie.

              Good spotting. He actually is

Two months ago he won the City Championship of Hamburg and many wondered who this guy was. The German top players were alltogether no match for him and his game was nice to watch. I am pleased to see him having such a run & hope he will pull out the title.

Should we all appeal to the WPBSA to give pro tickets to BOTH the winner and runner-up? Nah, they wouldn't listen to any TSF members anyway.

Hey...I know...let's suggest this to Barry Hearn and see if he does it when he gets to be Chairman

Let's see Igor winning the final. Then it's in Barry's hands to give the extra wild card for Alfie.

Sure, the tour needs some fresh faces & a more open modus. This is one of the issues that should be revised soon...

I'm from Brazil, and saw Igor many times on local and national championships, he have skill, and nerves.. he is 4 time brazilian champion (on 10 ft, 10 red).

All snooker here is played on 10ft, thats a shame. I hope we change soon to full international rule.

But he is not the only one that know play here, we have some talents here.

Is he living in Germany or Brazil?

I just noticed that Yu made a break of 142 and still lost.

He's now living in Germany, same as Itaro Santos and I think he's coached by Chris Henry.

I don't know how to initiate a poll but I'd suggest to take a vote for a second wild card to be handed to Igor. This player deserves a chance on the professional tour.
