I have never been a lover of Barry Hearn but the one thing you can't deny is his ability to succeed where others have failed. I am optimistic at his mentioning of full transparency in the dealings of the new board, should he become Chairman and wish him well in placing Snooker front and centre therefore attracting the media and new Sponsors.

        A CONCLAVE!!!
The WPBSA elected their own Pope?!?!

This reminds me that this is a great opportunity for Snooker, unlike the guy below, to get into The Modern Age.

Building participation and audience is job one.
Participation = appreciation for the "art of snooker"
Audience = promote snooker "star power" to grab eyeballs for sponsors and asses in seats for promoters

Then it's the WPBSA Pope's turn...
to spread the word of snooker, the wonderful sport as we know it and want it to be, far and wide in 2010...

Meanwhile... "Ding Dong the Witch Is Dead" Time...

        Cheers!

        =o)

I wonder what will happen next-will the existing board members resign or will they co-opt some friends of theirs to help out?
It has to be Hearn and maybe some people that he knows that have contacts in circles where there are businesses who want to sponsor events-look at the companies involved in sponsoring darts.
Maybe some events will move to satellite but we have been there before and as the Wc is a well watches event on terrestrial tv then there maybe grounds for the govt. to insist that it remains free to air like the world cup and wimbledon

Leyton Orient fans felt the same when he arrived at Brisbane Road. A big name promoter, who would help them attract better players and see them rise increase their standing. Instead, the club has had one relegation and one promotion, and sold a lot of space that the ground occupied to a consortium owned by Barry Hearn. Walker's tenure at Leicester City FC was no better.

Walker and Hearn are different sides of the same coin, to be honest. I'd prefer someone else be in charge of the sport than either of them.

Just a note to those worried about snooker moving off terrestrial TV.

I've been contacted by a gentleman who says he has the rights to distribute the (almost) live broadcasts from the BBC plus the entire WPBSA library of matches. This is strictly for Canada and he intends to launch his site and will have any broadcast matches about 2-3 hours after they finish and once the final editing it done. He then automatically posts them to his website.

He doesn't intend to charge for this service however he tells me it's a simple matter to hook up to a large screen TV as he already does this for clubs and bars and even the media advertising for Timmy's.

I would think there might be someone in Europe who can take an internet snooker match and hook it up to a large screen TV so you don't have to watch the small screen anymore. I'm assured it's easy to do but I have been too lazy to try it yet with my plasma.

I hope your including yourself in this. Yes their has been a lot of conjecture and hearsay, but you yourself havebeen part of it...
For instance you stated for many many posts that you wanted walker in then suddenly changed your tune to "i dont really want him but hes better than Hearn"; When first step to appointing someone else was voting Walker out.

Now personally I am incredibly happy that Walker is out. His track record warranted this. Whether I want Hearn in I am not sure. I have been reading both sides of this argument and I think the truth of the matter is we don't know what Hearn plans to do if he is appointed.
