  • Ssb - shoddy table causes hold-up

Graeme Dott and Jimmy Michie have had to switch tables as the one they began their match on is currently unplayable.

Balls were rolling off and table fitters have so far spent over half an hour trying to rectify the problem, without success.

Michie was leading 3-1 at the interval but will now resume on the table used by Stuart Pettman and Stuart Bingham, who have finished their session.

The players were given the option of continuing the match in the World Snooker Academy but gave the idea short shrift.

The original table hasn’t been used since the previous round last week.

A WPBSA spokesman said: “After complaints from players the table was deemed unplayable and the decision was taken to continue on the first available table. A decision will then be taken to see whether the match can resume on the original table for the second session.”

If the table is still not up to scratch the players will have to hang around waiting for a table to become available later on tonight.

This is the last thing they needed for what many players regard as the most important match of the whole season.

No breaks over 30 in the first 4 frames (I think GSC put in brackets breaks over 30) so it was clearly not helping any rhythm. Exceptionally poor show- why was it not assessed in the morning and tested. I bet if Dott loses he'll have something to say - and although Jimmy Michie went 3-1 up, it can hardly help the flow of his game as he is quite a fluent player.

Dott made a 60 odd in the 4th frame.

EDIT: Sorry, it was the 5th frame..

Dott loves an excuse so he'll undoubtedly blame it on the table if he loses... but then again, so would I !!!

The point is that whoever wins or loses is irrelevant, although I hope Dott wins. They should BOTH COMPLAIN at the end of the match.

Yes even GSC isn't going to put breaks in the 20s!!

Dott will win anyway but he cant blame table if he loses cos they both have been in same conditions

You can blame the table if you lose and rightly so - In this case, it is not the case of a bad workman blaming his tools. Bad conditions can make results more random, just like easy conditions can also make things too easy for players to clear up and also level conditions - it needs to be 'just right!'

If they were playing on an atrocious table, it means that both players cannot play their best and would give a player who is not as good more chance of winning. It's the same with pool - if I am playing on a fast, flat table, I will feel confident against anyone, but on a slow table with dodgy cushions and a roll, my record may only by 60 - 70% against players I would beat 10-1 or 10-2 on a good table.

We have very poor pool tables in Ukraine so I just want to get on European championship to see If I will play there better
