  • Ssb - fu fighter claims premier league place

Marco Fu, who finished bottom in this season's Premier League, has earned another chance at the title after winning the Championship League at Crondon Park Golf Club, Essex tonight.

Fu (pictured with Matchroom boss and WPBSA chairman Barry Hearn) came from 2-0 down to beat Mark Allen 3-2 in the final of the winners' group.

Fu needed a snooker in the third frame, got it and forced the mistake from Allen. The Hong Kong potter then finished off with breaks of 94 and 95 to clinch the £10,000 first prize and pick up an invite to the Premier League, which he won seven years ago.

"Qualifying for the Premier League is a very special moment for me as everyone wants to play in the league. Only the top players can play in it and with it being live on television it is a very prestigious competition," Fu said.

The Premier League returns on September 2 and concludes at the end of November.

Why you're not the 1st person saying that...

He must of known there's no other way on earth he'd be invited, so he took this chance to win in CL lottery.

He's a past winner, so it isn't that bad. Plus I like Fu.

Considering the way that Fu won the match last night he absolutely deserves his place. Congrats to Marco!

Allen, though, is suitable material for the Premier League and I'm sure we'll see him there sometime in the future. It must have been very disappointing to lose the third frame. He just couldn't re-group after that which is understandable, especially in a short match like that.

Marco's fightback and composure were awsome and he totally deserved to win and hence earned his right to be there next year.

I'm sure, Alex, that if Graeme Dott was taking part of this, and winning it, there would be people to write exactly what you wrote "worst possible outcome". How would you feel about that?
I'm not a fan of Marco Fu, not at all in fact, but you have to give the guy the credit he deserves. He's a fighter and he was awsome.

If he's playing like he did last evening Robbo will be in trouble in the second round of WC.

and then he lost round 1 at the welsh

Dott didn't have a problem with the shot clock when he played in it unlike Fu. Most of the matches last year involving Fu dragged on and on because he kept playing negative safety because he didn't have time to play some decent safety.

I am a fan of Fu by the way.

What is he meant to do, just give up on the PL because he had some poor results last year? Well done to him, could give him some confidence for the ranking events. Would have been nice to see Mark Allen there as well!

im saying it seems to wreck his Rhythm when he plays in ranking matches this season

But if he thinks the PL is more important than ranking events thats up to him
