  • Ssb - crucible countdown: No sleep 'til mayday

There’s no excuse – apart from going to work and having a life – for missing any of the Betfred.com World Championship.

The BBC and Eurosport will provide hour after hour of coverage in the UK and Europe with Chinese TV also taking live matches.

The BBC, who instituted live daily coverage from the Crucible 32 years ago, start their terrestrial programming on BBC2 at 2.30pm on Saturday.

The interactive streams on Freeview, cable and satellite and the BBC website (for UK viewers only) start at 10am.

On week days, Eurosport are showing one table in each session on the main channel and the other on Eurosport 2. It’s also all live on eurosportplayer.com.

In the meantime, I thought we could get in the mood by watching some old stuff on Youtube.

First up, from the days before the theme tune got pimped, a montage of winners from 1977 to 1994.

A little talked about match from 1985.

Stephen Hendry becoming the youngest ever champion in 1990.

    The first Embassy final.

    Some classic Alex Higgins aggro.

    Joe Johnson’s remarkable 1986 triumph.

Here’s the BBC’s most fondly remembered musical item (surely due an update).

People forget how close the 1982 final was.

Some cheer for Jimmy White fans.

    Five minutes of genius.

The best match-saving break of all time.

And finally, John Virgo’s impressions of the stars of the 1980s, which were a regular feature of the World Championship back then.

    Enjoy!

i am down to one red button stream , i just hope the matches shown are the ones I want to see. I got used to watching both streams in a pip the last few years but no more via freeview, i might just have to get a freeview hd box before the weekend.

I'm seriously considering quiting my job and living out of social welfare, cause i'll miss almost all morning sessions this WC.

By the way, can some one suggest a good divorce lawyer?

I'm out in the real world working now rather that a student like i was last year while the world championships were on so I won't be watching anywhere near as much of it as i did last year.

One of the few advantages of living a world away from Shefeild is that all the matches are on in the middle of the night so you can still watch as much snooker as you want, its just a question of how much sleep you can afford to go without

hopefully will be there in person next year

mate are you confident about robbo's chances ?

i think the experience form getting to the semi's last year will help him this year

Robbo really seems to thrive in the longer matches and i've always rated him as a good chance at the crucible, he was pretty impressive in his run to the semi last year though i wish he could have made it all the way to the final, he was paying more just to make the final last year than he is to win it this year, guess people have clicked on that he has the game to win it.

Would be pretty amasing to have the 1 Australian out of 96 on the tour win the world championships.

Are you planing on just watching via one of the live streams?, i see you mentioned somthing called free sat in one of ya previous posts, what's this? is there some easier way to watch the snooker from aust that i don't know about?
