Ssb - maguire v burnett: Report sent to prosecutors

Stephen Maguire and Jamie Burnett are among five men that form the subject of a police report relating to irregular betting patterns for their match in the 2008 UK Championship forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal in Scotland.

The Procurator Fiscal will ultimately decide whether charges will be brought.

A statement released today read: "Strathclyde Police Economic Crime Unit can confirm that five males aged 35, 34, 31, 31 and 29 are subject of a police report that is being submitted to the Procurator Fiscal at Hamilton in relation to the alleged irregular betting patterns associated with the snooker match involving Stephen Maguire and Jamie Burnett at the Maplin UK Championship on 14 December 2008."

Last year, Strathclyde Police made public that they had interviewed the two players the week before the World Championship. This latest news comes just two days before this year's Crucible event.

Yeah that's really quite coincidence... surely someone investigating this can't be uninformed about the major event of this sport.

Or well, maybe this will motivate Maguire then as deadline...

And the other three are?

Jamie is 34 years old
Stephen. M is 29 Years old

so that leaves 35, 31 & 31

Stephen Lee was arrested a few weeks ago but no word if that was regarding this incident or another but he is 35 (I am not saying that he is involved in the Jamie / Maguire case only speculating) so that would leave two people who are 31 years old.

The names mentioned are only speculative and I am not pointing the finger or naming anybody in relation to match fixing in the posts I make in this thread.

mate no matter how you look at it its incompitance investigation for christ sake it is not a world wide betting cartel or syndicate its 5 men in for christ sakes scotland....and its taking for ever to work out whats bloody whats.

the people behind this investigation should be sacked for wasting time and money.

It's a complete joke. There can't be any real evidence of any wrong doing or it wouldn't have taken this long to prepare a report to send to the Fiscal's office.

A total waste of time and money, not to metion the impact on the reputations of 2 totally innocent players IMHO.

Not at all. It would appear that the only "evidence" is the irregular betting patterns and that has nothing to do with Jamie or Stephen unless they were the ones placing the bets.
