That is probably the craziest thing I have read about the subject so far.... A manager ruining his career and the career of his most valuable player, to gain what exactly?

Good plot for a cheap novel though, beats the "it was Hearn's doing" version.

Anyone who watched Channel 4 news tonight would have heard a very interesting addition to the story.

The News of the World have said "they are very surprised by the comments Pat Mooney feared for his life, as their reporters met him on 3 separate occasions to discuss match fixing!"

      That says it all.....

Well... do they have prove for that? This could just be a tabloid trying to make the story even bigger.

Yeah they explain it in this article.

          http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news...-RSS&ATTR=News

Mr Mooney also had three previous meetings during recent months with our investigations editor at bars and restaurants of his choosing in Edinburgh, a city he knows very well.

We assume Mr Mooney did not feel intimidated during these meetings where he openly discussed John Higgins and match fixing.

In a number of conversations he explained how a snooker game could be fixed, the amount of money required to facilitate it and repeatedly assured us that Mr Higgins would be "relaxed" with the arrangement.

At no time whilst in Kiev did Mr Mooney or Mr Higgins show any signs of being under duress or in any way unhappy at being in our company.

Our film and audio evidence on Mr Mooney and Mr Higgins are available to the World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association.

The News of the World will be publishing further revelations next Sunday.

its interesting that nobody has pointed out that this is entrapment and had to be done in kiev because here you would go to jail for doing it!

tbh it's all eerily reminiscent of the righteous indignation of doped athletes banging on about how they'd never, ever knowingly take any banned substance before they realise they can't possibly get away with it and start grassing everyone they can think of up and claiming they're only doing it to save the integrity of the sport they love so much.

I always hope they're telling the truth but it seems they almost never are.

But higgins was not caught getting the money.

If he was caught getting the money he would be more than 100% guilty.
But now there is a small chance (5-10%) that he is telling the truth here.He may was afraid for his life and told them that he would do it while he wouldn't.

if you are prepared to go far enough everybody has a price - his manager should be there to protect him.

Tabloids are scum but what difference does it make who uncovered it? I hate to say this but they sort of did us a favour. If the sport's dirty, let's clean it up asap.

or maybe these russian mafia types are cleverer than we're giving them credit for...

first they arrange to have Higgins falsely set up by the NOTW, then they put vast amounts of money on a bet that Higgins is actually innocent and then when the truth comes out they rake in the cash!!!!!

ok, not likely perhaps but it makes a lot more sense than the Higgins/Mooney explanation

I've got another explanation that's better than the Mooney/Higgins hypothesis involving Emma Samms, Patrick duffy and a shower in an alien spaceship but I haven't worked out all the details yet.

What would a frame look like if both players were played to lose it?
