Was all the 300k for Higgins or a split between the two?

Barry hearn confirms today that Higgins and Mooney did not report the incident to the WPBSA upon their return which could consitute an offence of non reporting in the eyes of the WPBSA so whether he is guilty or not, he could be held to account for withholding information....

Intimidation could also be an excuse for not reporting it... I half beleive John's story. It's more likely that Mooney was intimidated and John was drunk. Mooney looked a lot less comfortable than Higgins.

I suspect both Hearn and Mooney, by the way :-)

Barry Hearn could have set the whole thing up, and be using Higgins and/or Mooney as puppets in a show trial to give a graphic display of the 'integrity' of the game.

He is trying to re-invigorate it after all.

And does anyone seriously think that slimeball is above such activity?

I'm not one of Barry Hearn's fans, but Barry Hearn is pretty up front. If he's screwing you, he shouts it from the rooftops, because he wants the credit for it. That said, the timing, in terms of the vote, really could not have been better for Hearn, considering Hearn's comments when Doyle stepped down about Doyle's "conflict of interest" between the World Tour and World Snooker, and who co-promotes that World Tour.

I certainly hope Hearm does not get his hands on 51% of our sport, because if he ever found himself in a position like this where a lot of the world is treating the accused isn't being presumed innocent until proven guilty, and he finds like Mooney, he is forced to resign until he clears his name - what happens to the 51% of World Snooker that has been given to Matchroom? (That might seem like an odd thing to think of now, but if the vote goes to Hearn, it's too late to consider afterwards).

In fact, to be honest, I wouldn't want any one person to have a 51% shareholding. Too much power for one man.

I suspected that too, the whole thing seems really fake. Remember the famous Henry Ford quote about advertising, and it was perfectly timed... Was it really a way of shouting "the wold champ final is tomorrow, tune in!"?

Also, NOTW haven't told us why they 'investigated' Higgins. There was no suggestion that he'd been involved in fixing before... They could entrap, set up anyone from any sport if was really that easy. They haven't given us a lot of details, and Mooney shouldn't have been that easy to trick.

NOTW is a trashy enough publication to stage something like this in return for being able to sell a few more newspapers...

Exactly! Anyone who just trusts whatever they read in a bog-roll like that is an idiot.

                    • If Higgins had been innocent in all the proceedings surely he would have informed either Barry Hearn or some other party to inform them of what was happening??
Seems to me that with the failure of his doomed personel snooker tour he was trying to recoup a few bob !!

                      • The NOTW said from the off the reason they investigated Higgins was because they were tipped off by an insider that Higgins would be up for something like that.

But yeah, obviously Barry Hearn has done this all as a fit-up job, carefully staging it all and sacrificing one of the game's most popular players for the sake of advertising one tournament.

What a load of garbage. Do you actually believe Hearn would even consider such a thing and risk shooting himself in the foot.

Higgins got caught out and some people cannot accept it. Next thing people will be saying he tipped off the police about Lee and Maguire.

The man is not an idiot, if it came to light he was involved both he and snooker would be ruined.

Higgins is not the first sportsman to succumb to this kind of thing and I suspect won't be the last.

                            Also include this option...

                            - Nobody... that tale was fabricated also
