The sport is not just a set of balls.
The sport means the men and women who play snooker.
One of the best players in this sport's history is in his hour of need and YES, Noel is right: we owe Alex for our sport.
And for our heart.
And for our face.Winner of the 2009 UK Championship Lucky Dip

There is no doubt that Higgins had an influence on the success of snooker, more than most. But I will not be donating money to someone who has earned far more than I could even dream of and frittered it away, no matter how well-deserving the individual.

Alex is the Diego Armando Maradona of snooker. Without him snooker wouldn't be so popular. the game owes him so much and the least we, snooker fans, can do is to help him with small donate. I would expect, top players such as Ronnie and White and the WPBSA to do same. for them its nothing, for him it matter of life or death.Proud winner of the 2009 Premier League Semi-Final Prediction Contest

today young sportsmen has george Best or Alex Higgins as bench mark of how not to behave and if they go off the rails nobody can say they wasent warned..
Alex Higgins was of an era when money was just starting to come in to sport and was clueless how to manage it.

I really can't believe all this romantic nonsense about him being used etc etc blah blah.
Think about it, he says every manager he ever had and every pal he ever had used him, that is really helluva unlucky is it not?
Or is the common denominator not that he is using all these people as an excuse? Come on guys, he's not some kind of robin hood anti hero figure.
That said he was the best ever to watch, he was my hero when I was a boy and I fill up every time I see a picture of him, it's only his big heart that's keeping him alive.
If I could wave a magic wand and make him better, I would but he deserves less help than any ordinary working man in the same condition, because Higgins over the years has never helped himself.
I used to watch him every year in the Langs Supreme in Glasgow, I have the autograph of every player and ref who I ever saw there, with one exception.
Sadly a hero with feet of clay and I have no doubt he helped snooker get where it was but he got the rewards for that and drank them and gambled them.
I wish he was fit, I still watch footage of him now, I went to Glenrothes to see him last year but please don't anyone try to portray him as a nice guy, he is not and never was.

Have you met Alex, have you played him?, have you worked with him?, have you been on the end of his attitude?
We have....and it wasn't much fun. So unless you have been in our shoes, do not insult people the way you do on a forum like this.Last edited by bigbreak; 19 May 2010, 11:01 AM.

I BELIEVE
What I have seen with my own eyes, combined with the opinion of everyone I have ever met in the game, not most people I have ever met, everyone I have ever met.
I believe all his managers, who say he was selfish, impossible to manage and a drunken gambler. I believe his wife, who left him, his girlfriend who stabbed him, I believe the official he headbutted, the referee he punched, the journalists he abused, my own experince of him.
You believe
Alex.
Lets just each believe what we like, when you've seen a guy refuse to give a kid his autograph, a guy who earned the equivalent of millions, you tell me that's a nice guy.
You mate, are a pratt, and you're not a pratt for having your own opinion, you're a pratt for failing to be able to have a debate about those opinions without resorting to personal insults and without finding out if those others who hold differing opinions have any justicication for the opinions they hold.
I await your justifications of your opinions.
Not insults please, just justify your opinions.
