  • Ssb - hendry enters paul hunter classic

Stephen Hendry is among around 70 professionals who have entered the Paul Hunter Classic, the first of six events that comprise the European Players Tour Championship.

The tournament will be staged in Furth, Germany from August 27-29.

Also on the starting list are world champion Neil Robertson, Shaun Murphy, Mark Selby, Ali Carter, Steve Davis, Mark Allen, Mark Williams, Stephen Maguire and Jimmy White.

Ronnie O'Sullivan and Ding Junhui do not feature in the list of entrants but the closing date is not until a week today.

Like the PTC events, the EPTC carries ranking points.

I do hope both Ronnie and Ding enter to pay tribute to Paul.

He was a great guy that snooker will never be able to replace.

My two favourites at last enter a PTC event - Hendry and Allen. Hope they will be sharp for the event. Good to see the Paul Hunter Classic has some ranking points now.

Great news! This is going to be my 6th year at the PHC, and even if I have some reservations about the changes that were applied this year (the tournament will definitely be different and not as relaxed as in recent years), I'm really looking forward to seeing Stephen there. There are also a couple of other players who will join the PHC for the first time (Dott, Carter) and we will see the return of Ian McCulloch, who is an old favorite of the fans here in Germany. Can't wait until the end of August!!

Oh, and it will also be nice to have Stephen Lee back in Germany. I'll bring my dog along, just in case...!

As much as I know Ding and Martin Gould have entered as well. I'm looking forward to seeing Ian again. He's such a nice guy

I wonder how many people will bring their dogs along

After Matthew Stevens not being invited to this event for the past two years he will now also be entering which he is very excited about especially as Paul was his best friend.

Ding is mentioned in an article about the participating players on www.snookerstars.de, but he is not listed in the attached pdf file.
Perhaps Kyra has some inside knowledge?

Ding is listed. I just had a look at the newest list. But there are still some other players missing who have definately entered (e.g. Martin Gould).
Unfortunalely I don't have informations regarding the PTC 4. Sorry.

Matthew did attend the PHC in 2008, and I cannot believe that not inviting him was the reason for his absence in other years?!

When I last spoke to him he said he has not been to the event for two years, if you say he was there in 2008 then maybe he had included this year for some reason!

From what I gather as this was a Snooker Stars event previously and his break with manager Brandon Parker he did not get the invite back, but as it is now a WPBSA event he is back and will continue to enter in the future as he is very fond of this event.

And the crowd and the organizers are very fond of him - that's the reason why I cannot believe he wasn't invited. Perhaps it was really a problem with his management...
Anyway, we'll be glad to have him back!

So far 65 of the 96 professionals have entered this tournament with about a week to enter. Hopefully this number will increase in the next few days.

113 amateurs have also entered this event, with players travelling from nearby Belgium, France and the Netherlands, as well as Eastern Europe.

This will be the biggest PTC event yet.

I'm hoping all the professionals enter to pay there own tribute to Paul.
