If there was one man I felt perhaps was out of place on the documentary, it'd be Barry Hearn.

I thought they did a good job of selecting the right people. Ken would have been good I agree, but not Willie!! I thought they all spoke well, and really nice to see Reardon looking so well. If there was one man I felt perhaps was out of place on the documentary, it'd be Barry Hearn.

Barry Hearn was the perfect man to be involved in it.

Barry Hearn and Alex Higgins goes back almost 30 years together they same age and had enormous respect for each other but things was never going to happen on a personal level.

Possibly had Alex had the stability Barry Hearn could offer things could have been very different in his later life.

As you say there was alot of respect between them, Barry said Alex had never let him down once with anything he'd asked him to do over the years when maybe he should have done.
And Alex said had Barry been his manager he would not only have been one of the greatest snooker players ever he would also have been one of the richest.
The respect clear in these comments I think..........

Just watched it...................................same old same old, nothing new to discuss, then again can't expect there to be as everything has been said already many times over.
Jimmy White in a baseball cap.................hmmmnnn, wonder if he had just washed his hair and had it hanging on the line to dry, or maybe the neighbours dog has run off with it and buried it somewhere, or maybe he's going to ditch the syrup and go au naturelle.

I don’t think that really matters, vmax4steve. I’d even say that most of us here would be able to write a pretty solid script for this documentary. Most of us know quite a lot about Alex, are familiar with a lot of his match footage, and have heard or read a lot of the other snooker’ big names’ comments on Alex. What I think matters to most of us is the very fact that the documentary has been made. We wanted it because there are many who agree that it was owed to Alex....

Nice to see the BBC remembered the great man again today at the start of the Open, showing some footage along with players talking about him, i thought they might show something being its the first BBC televised tournament since he died.

It was also nice to see Jimmy in the studio not only talking about Alex but also playing himself tomorrow.

Anyway for those who missed the Alex footage keep an eye open for it as i'm sure it will be shown again a few times during the week.

Your right it is sad, it's that sinking feeling we all experience at some point in our lives when losing someone close & events like this remind us.

Its actually still hard to believe Alex has gone when you look at footage of him, as a fan we all sort of hoped he'd make a come back of some kind & while he was still here it was very hard to bet against him as he always did well against all odds, but it just wasn't to be.

It's a shame but it was always destined to end badly for him, as Jimmy said its frustrating because things could have been different had he looked after himself properly with malnutrition being the main reason for his demise though eating properly must have been difficult after battling throat cancer.

I think Ray Reardon said Alex had wore out 2 body's in his lifetime & lived lived to the full & in his own way, can't argue with that.

Enjoy the book, it is a very good read.

yeah i feel incredibly lucky that i got to see his appearance in the snooker legends in sheffield. i am only 17 and so didnt really get a chance to see him, but love seeing any footage of him and other players around his time.

i deffinatly think he coulda been in better shape, i mean its quite obvious as he could have lived to be 80. but just shows what years of drink and smoking does. he was so skinny in sheffield in april, everyone gasped when he came out to the packed audience but he really got the crowd going, he only potted about 10 balls in the whole night, im telling you, 10 classic alex higgins shots.

yeah ray did say he wore out two bodies and deffinatly in his own way.
