Terrible news if true. Once again picking and choosing which events he wants to enter without a genuine reason. Hearn really has his hands full if he can't rely on the most popular player supporting him. About time someone really put him in his place because its getting beyond a joke now, I'm sure monique will come on and defend him but this is a step too far now, especially being the first ranking event of the season.

Ronnie has withdrew for the Shanghai Masters or not? I found the article on World Snooker, but now this article is remowed...

          It's strange, not?

Probably to avoid some legal wrangling I should imagine. The chinese sponsors won't be very happy if they found out that he withdrew due to a bad back as alleged yet managed to play in the premier league tonight. So I think they will delay the announcement until after the premier league so as to not look as suspicious.

If he does withdraw, I think it will be the sixth time in the last five years in the overseas events. Quite a record.

That would leave quite an interesting situation in the draw. If Tian Pengfei won his wildcard match, he would go straight to the last16, where he could possibly play Ryan Day, a player whom he thrashed in the final of the BTV Cup this summer.

Having suffered chronic back problems over the years, I can safely say that a one hour snooker match will not have the same negative effect as will a long flight to the Far East! Even if it's a first class flight!!!

Spot on. I was thinking the same thing. It's not about snooker it is about flight
You cannot improve your game if you don't have a cue and snooker table

This is bad news. Hopefully he has a good reason for this being the defending champion and all.

I'm now told Ronnie's withdrawal from Shanghai has nothing to do with his back. Will try and clarify in the morning.

Any ideas why O'Sullivan was so monosyllabic in his post-match interview? Seemed to be in a bit of a strop. I didn't catch the pre-match interview - was he similarly behaved there?

Yeah, he was a little weird and grumpy (as usual then!). I think its just out of frustration. I saw half of his match; he didn't play well at all - certainly not the Ronnie I would expect. (In fact both players missed ball after ball).

I honestly think there's more to this that meets the eye.
