The thing is though it was clear that Ding was not playing an attacking shot from the break. He just opened the reds, he didn’t hit them hard enough to try and pot, he purposely left his opponent in. Hann was different as he was trying to get one in off the break.

Having said all this, I still am all for Hearn's revolution and feel that he is the best man to lead the sport.
you cant be tough for the hell of it without evidence.
however if a player doesent turn up to his job it says W/O on the draw sheet = Strong Evidence.

I agree with what Hearn says about this, I don't mind people smashing the pack of the break like Quinten but he had no intention of potting a ball there. He just wanted to give the frame to Liang. Also, look at 3:25. Red over the pocket and he makes 1 from it in a very suspicious way.

But it's another thing if there is suspicion that a player is deliberately trying to lose. In that case, it shouldn't matter if it's a controversial break-off shot, or a simple black off the spot like in the O'Sullivan-Tian match. By all mean have a hearing or an investigation in that case.
But a rule that dictates players' shot selection would be preposterous.

Players must show commitment to the game and if Barry has to Blackmail them then so be it

Don't know if there are any videos of Quinten doing it online, but I'm guessing that's the only time Robertson has tried it in his career, and he potted one! Isn't that a 100% success rate...?
Really if it's anywhere around 50% you can't punish a player for going for it. It becomes a talking-point if a player does it, the crowd went mad when Quinten did, and a player could conceivably win the game from the break. Then there's the psychology of it and how the opponent would be affected coming to the table after a break like that. The balls could all be on, or they could go awkward. This has to be allowed. Ding's attempt was something different, though.Last edited by Nugget; 24 November 2010, 08:46 PM.
