    Despite winning this morning, John Higgins has withdrawn from the German Masters after his father's ill health worsened.

    John Senior is suffering from cancer and his son is returning home.

    Family has always come first for Higgins. He walked out of the 2000 Grand Prix because of a date clash with his brother's wedding.

    John Senior was too ill to travel to Telford to watch him win the UK Championship, having been told last September that his cancer was terminal.

    It's worth remembering at times like these that snooker, though hugely important to many of us, is just a game.

            Johns dad passed away as John was enroute home to see him, early today.

                My condolences to the Higgin's family, a very sad time for him and the rest of them, the poor man I hope he died pain free and relatively happy at least, a terrible disease!
