Well here is a little tale...
I have actually met him once when he was first trying trying to break onto the pro tour many years ago. We wished him well and good luck and he was polite and said thank-you very much. I think he was a little taken a-back that someone noticed him, as both he and his manager stayed well away from the other pro's/wannabees in the hotel bar lounge that night but my husband and I had watched him play and we both said/noticed that he had something.
Then a number of years later in 2006 I think we were proved right when we watched him win the world championship, he deserved it after playing a wonderful match against Robertson in the semi-final (who we went to watch) with both players playing incredible stuff and he also played wonderful to again to get to two more finals, playing outstanding in the final in 2010 - player of the tournament for me despite loosing in the final to Robertson who got his revenge beating him for the first time ever on the most important stage.
Dott is a very determined player who uses the negative stuff other people say to inspire and motivate himself I think and at times perhaps he does take things too much to heart which he should not do, as the only opinions that should count come from people who know you well. Perhaps though this is a way of motivating and driving himself on and yet some players I have noticed seem to actually need/thrive off this as a motivational tool.
I personally was very sad to see that this forum had voted him the worst ever world champion in a poll on here recently. He is far far far from being that and though perhaps not admired as much from the fans as much as the other players in my opinion Dott is a fantastic player, a world champion and as a snooker fan who has met him breifly on occasion, I have to say he appears to be a nice guy too.
I like the Rocky/rags to riches stories and I say good luck to the guy. To come from where he did; to prove his doubters wrong and go on to achieve so much in his life is incredible. Sometimes out of adversity flies triumph and that is one line that could have been written about him. I look forward to watching him play in the UK in York and Sheffield again this year and again if I see him I will again casually/shy - wish him well and say another polite hello because as a snooker fan who likes watching (Most) of these great snooker players play this mind bashing game. I also think he may well win a few more events because to quote a cheesy but apt line in closing this little tale.... Dott certainly has not yet come to a full stop.Last edited by 1blonde; 17 September 2011, 01:47 PM.

Dott is undoubtedly a terrific player and no-where near the worst World champion. Having said that, his final against Ebdon was the worst I'd ever been subjected to, until his final against Robertson, which was an absolutely awful match.I often use large words I don't really understand in an attempt to appear more photosynthesis.
