Snookerfan has hit the nail on the head here. The Press Association virtually controls the stories the press print nowadays. Gone are the days when content differed from paper to paper. Even TV stations and online portals subscribe. Even when the World Championship is on there are barely any column inches on snooker, and Ronnie O Sullivan, the greatest box office draw and current World Champion isn't playing on the tour this year and yet 95% of the British public will be currently unaware of this fact.
I often use large words I don't really understand in an attempt to appear more photosynthesis.

Hearn to sponsors: "See? See? Ronnie won't play unless you guys pay him something."

Sponsors to Hearn: "Well, I guess we can fork over a million for a tourney and give it a try but you have to promise that Ronnie will play and you need to make sure he plays in the final. Can you hire a personal assistant for him Mr. Hearn?"

Hearn to sponsors: "Welll.... OK.. let me see what I can do. I will give Ronnie a call."

Hearn to Ronnie: "OK mate, we got it. ABC will give us extra cash. Good work Ronnie. Come in and sign the contract so I can tell everyone I bent your arm. Now, we will get extra money every tourney from all these sponsors. (evil laugh). Oh, and tell Stephen to come back also. He can stop pretending he hates snooker."
      nice theory lol

Hearn needs snooker just like he needs darts, to make even more money and fluff up his big ego. That's the kick for him, and 'owning' snooker is part of the megalomaniac's menu. Why does he need 24 tournaments a year, if it annoys the players? Why not just have say 12-16 ranking tournaments a year, so the players can get some rest as a lot have requested? Oh yeah, money. Money for Hearn that is. Why do lowly ranked players have to stump up huge entrance fees (on top of paying their flights/hotels/upkeep)? Oh yeah, money for Hearn. Why does ROS demand appearance money when that is money out of the pot for everyone? Oh yeah, greed. That's the problem with snooker now; greed.

Players Requested Hearn to come in. he did not want Snooker But he felt he owed Snooker because lets be Honest Snooker Made him.

people are forgetting here Hearn's best friend isn't a footballer,Darts Player,Boxer etc his Best mate is Steve Davis. don't you think if Steve as a player thought the contract or schedule too difficult he would have said something.

there's nothing wrong with the snooker tour,

if Ronnie had decided to play in Wuxi he would have had about 6 weeks off how much bloody rest do they want ?

and then after PTC 1 Top Players has another 2 Week Break as Lower Rank players try and Qualify for Shanghai and after PTC 2 there's another week and a half (apart from a PL Night) before the Paul Hunter Classic while low rank players try and qualify for the international open.

Don't bloody tell me top players are over work because they bloody not they just got in a rut of doing bloody sod all under previous regimes in snooker.

Hearn and Davis; flippin great. What a wonderful, enlightening conversation that would be for a fly on the wall.

You think Hearn took on snooker because he felt obligated? Pull the other one. He saw snooker was becoming popular overseas and saw the commercial potential. It was a business decision, end of story.

Steve Davis is a 50+ year old player in decline. He needs all the tournaments he can get. Sure he loves the tour. If this was the 1980s and tiredness/burnout was costing him world championships and millions of pounds I think it would be a different story...

That's the thing about this tour. Yes, the total money is impressive. But it's spread over so many tournaments and such a long season, it's not actually as attractive as it used to be. It's impossible to dominate, and therefore it's impossible to make really large money like Davis and Hendry used to.

Interesting. Wasn't aware of the insight you describe.

Spot on assessment Sir, spot on. I think Davis should retire. The nugget has made more dosh out of the sport than any other player. How about giving up the card for a youngster or upcoming player who can offer more Steve? Folk will only remember SD in decline, making negative break-offs, small breaks and scraping by in all the tournaments he can enter to keep his ranking around 60th. It's his choice of course, and he's free to do what he wants, and if he really enjoys it, why not? I just think it's embarrassing for a former great to grub around like this.

Steve Davis as was Stephen Hendry would have Lapped up the tour as it is Today they wanted to play snooker they wanted to go from one event to another and win it.

Todays players Got in a Rut and Hendry did not enjoy getting Beaten but if he was winning he would love it.

What kind of jobs do people have that they think playing snooker every other week is too demanding?
