    Hi there..can anyone tell me when the reddish brown fibre ferrules were first used..and when did they stop..(if they have) ..thanks

    I cannot tell you dates. But do you mean the brown phenolic ferrules? They still quite popular in american pool for break and/or jump cues.

      The ones I've seen are the pinkish red coloured ones on 1950s British cues..I've also seen pale brown ones..I'd often wondered if they were experimental at the time..seen on a few Cannon match play cues

        If I remember correctly (which I often don't) I bought a Riley's Professional with one of those ferrules sometime in the mid 1980s. Two piece maple & rosewood, wood to wood centre joint.

          The earliest reference I have seen to cues being supplied with a fibre ferrule is 1933.

            Thanks for that...makes you wonder if people in the 30s who were used to thin wafers, didn't like the feel of brass on the hit ...and makers used the fibre as it was closer to the wafer in its sound and feel
