UK Championships

THE women’s snooker season kicks off this weekend with a double-header at the North East Derbyshire Snooker Centre, Clay Cross.

On Sunday, September 13, an 18-strong field will assemble for the UK Championship, the first ranking event of the 2009/10 World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association season.

The previous day, the girls will be chasing more than £1,100 prize money in the third Wytech Ladies Masters (see separate thread).

Both tournaments start at 10am.

Among the favourites are: five-time world champion Reanne Evans, 23; Ronnie O’Sullivan’s cousin Maria Catalano, 27; four-time world billiards champion Emma Bonney, 33; and former World Snooker Association ‘Young Player of Distinction’ Katie Henrick, 29.

The UK Championship will also use the six-red format, but only in the Plate.

Evans is the defending champion. She overcame Catalano 3-1 in last year’s final.

The WLBSA is hosting six ranking events this season culminating in the World Championships in April.

or settle for some YouTube vids after-the-fact. Will still look forward to it!

I hope you don't mind but I'd love to ask someone who KNOWS...
Reanne Evans is arguably the class of the field.
If she were on her A game and all her opponents from the Men's Top 96 [ excluding Mark Allen ] were also on their A games...
how far up that list would she win, in your opinion?

cool, thanks wyt147 ... www.CueSport.tv is my favourite site at the moment - I've been watching so much of the free stuff on there, I feel I know Pete and Angie personally ...

I haven't yet got my plastic out yet but I'm sure I will eventually ... in the meanwhile, I hope you/they are making enough money from "ad-supported" free stuff ...

I didn't realise that ladies snooker was televised at all!

Reanne Evans plays one level below the professional circuit.

She finished 36th on the EASB Pro-Ticket Tour last season.

But at the age of 23, she has years ahead of her.

I know how determined she is to become the first woman to qualify for the pro-circuit.

Reanne has a top competitive break of 140. She believes in playing like a man – attacking the pack at every opportunity and trying to win each frame in one visit.

in the nick of time to watch Catalano standing at the end of the table, carefully, and thoughtfully
packing up her kit and putting on her black leather jacket sadly, as though she was wearing defeat.
