  • Women's East Anglian Championship

REANNE Evans hopes to extend her 43-match unbeaten run on the women’s snooker circuit at Cambridge Snooker Centre on Saturday (October 10).

The East Anglian Championship is the second of six ranking events on the World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association’s 2009/10 tour.

Five-time world champion Evans, 23, from Dudley, won the East Anglian in 2006 and 2008. She has a total of 18 ranking titles.

Among Evans’ rival for this year’s title are Maria Catalano (Dudley), Emma Bonney (Portsmouth) and Kent’s Katie Henrick who claimed her first and only tournament victory here two years ago.

Henrick, 29, said: “Winning the East Anglian back in 2007 was a special and important moment as it was my first ranking event win.

“It’s a long time ago now so it would be great to get another win.

“I need to play my best snooker though and start scoring more, which I haven't been doing, especially if you want to beat a player like Reanne who is winning and improving all the time.

“She is without question the best player - but we all have to start believing in ourselves and have more confidence if we are going to win.

“You have to play the game not the player and not worry about anyone else.”

Also in the Cambridge line-up is: eight-time German national champion Natascha Niermann; Derbyshire youngsters Hannah Jones, 13, Joanne Davies, 16, Naomi Clare, 15; Swindon teenager Jodie Symes, 15; and, making a welcome return to the circuit, Newcastle’s Pam Wood.

The WLBSA is hosting six ranking events this season culminating in the World Championships in April.

East Anglian Championship report and results

REANNE Evans has extended her remarkable unbeaten run on the women’s snooker circuit to 46 matches with victory in the East Anglian Championship.

A 3-0 win over Portsmouth’s Emma Bonney in the final at Cambridge Snooker Centre (on Saturday, October 10) wrapped up the 23-year-old’s 19th World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association (WLBSA) ranking title.

“I didn’t really give her a shot,” admitted the undisputed world number one. “I played solid; I only missed one ball.”

The defending champion, who did not drop a frame all day, compiled a 51 in a 3-0 victory against Newcastle’s Pam Wood and eased past world number four Katie Henrick, from Kent, by the same score in the semi-final.

Since a 3-2 defeat by Maria Catalano in the Connie Gough final in Luton on March 1, 2008, Evans, from Dudley, has collected the winners’ trophy in the last ten WLBSA singles events she has entered with a record of 146 frames for and only 17 against.

However, there is a glimmer of hope for the chasing pack ahead of next month’s British Open in Newmarket.

If - and it’s a big if - the three-time IBSF world champion and five-time WLBSA world champion can find a sponsor in time, she will be in Hyderabad, India, for the 2009 IBSF World Championships.

The East Anglian Championship was the second of six ranking events on the WLBSA 2009/10 tour.

Derby schoolgirl Hannah Jones defeated eight-time German national champion Natascha Niermann 2-1 in the Plate semi-final and outgunned world number five Eva Palmius 2-1 in the final.

The 13-year-old also picked up the Junior title - accounting for Swindon’s Jodie Symes, 15, 2-0 in the final.

Palmius, from Isleham, Cambs, beat Eastbourne’s Martina Lumsden 2-0 in the Seniors’ final.

          RESULTS (breaks):

LAST-16: Reanne Evans bye, Pam Wood beat Eva Palmius 3-2, Katie Henrick beat Hannah Jones 3-0, Suzie Opacic beat Marianne Williams 3-1, Emma Bonney (49, 41) beat Natascha Niermann 3-0, Jodie Symes beat Martina Lumsden 3-1, Chris Sharpe beat Gaye Jones 3-0, Maria Catalano (55) beat Naomi Clare 3-0.

QUARTER-FINALS: Evans (51) beat Wood 3-0, Henrick (36, 31) beat Opacic 3-1, Bonney beat Symes 3-0, Catalano beat Sharpe 3-0.

SEMI-FINALS: Evans beat Henrick 3-0, Bonney beat Catalano 3-0.

FINAL (£200/£100): Evans beat Bonney 3-0.

          PLATE

QUARTER-FINALS: Niermann beat Clare 2-0, H Jones beat Williams 2-1, G Jones beat Lumsden 2-1, Palmius bye.

          SEMI-FINALS: H Jones beat Niermann 2-1, Palmius (40) beat G Jones 2-0.

FINAL: H Jones beat Palmius 2-1.

          JUNIORS

ROUND ROBIN: H Jones beat Clare 1-0, Symes beat Clare 1-0.

FINAL: H Jones beat Symes 2-0.

          SENIORS

          SEMI-FINALS: Lumsden beat Williams 1-0, Palmius w/o G Jones.

          FINAL: Palmius beat Lumsden 2-0.
