  • WSC 2007 - Beating top player woes!!!

I'm really loving this game. I'm in my 3rd (snooker) season and I'm ranked 32 in the world and i've had several century breaks (not boasting - honest! )..... But I just dont seem to be able to beat anyone in the top 5!!! So I never seem able to win a tournament! Grrrr!!

I was wondering that cos i'm only 32 in the world, the computer makes it harder for me to beat these top players? I mean every bit of luck goes their way and it seems noticebly difficult to get big breaks against these players? Things seem to go strangely wrong when playing against them and i dont think its down to pressure!!

When i reach top 16 will it become easier to win things? i.e. will the computer take things a little easier on me if you see what i mean?

    Hope this makes sense!

Sorry that i can't help you regarding you question, as I'm stilll having problems qualifying for a main event.

But i have a question for you, would you please help too explain how the main events are setup?

What i mean is I've on several occasions played the final qualifying match and always lost and usually against a top ten player, how is it possible, shouldn't they only appear in the main events?
Why do they even play in qualifying matches? and how many players, rounds, are in the main events?

The game is brilliant though, still would be nice to be able to qualify for a main event and not to always get whipped in the final round by an top ten player...

Yeah I was wondering that also, I just assumed the top 16 automatically qualified? I've been fairly lucky with the last qualifying games though, quite often getting a lower seeded player...... As its only one frame you have a good chance of getting in with a big break! Just keep trying.

I found the 2nd season i started qualifying for more events. Also by then you should have a few more stat points to add. I just cant seem to qualify for the Grand Prix though!! Cos I always seem to get one of the dreaded top 5 players!!

I played WSC 2004 on the PS2 over Xmas and really liked it, thats why i bought this. The 2007 ones seems easier because of the new aids, but its still really hard to beat top 5 players!! And you need to beat the top players to win events and unlock players etc!

As I said in my original post, I'm hoping once i get in the top 16 the computer will "allow" me to beat these players!

Well I only play on the accurate setting making it very hard too qualify, i actually don't mind loosing it's just that it takes away some of the realism. I mean what happens if i beat let's say a top 5 player in the qualifyiers, won't he be in the main event? As he would be in real life!

Maybe i should play on the short setting but then again it's not snooker anymore

Have any of you felt any difference when getting your stats up?

My stats for potting, positioning and pressure are all up to 14 and a few others are on 6. I'm not really noticing a great deal tbh, because the increase is so gradual. I'm getting better now, but I'm putting that down to hours of practise! I wonder what it'll be like when the stat bars are half way accross!!!

I have had the same problems. I played Steve Davis in the Quarter Final of the Grand Prix and played 2 shots. Frame 1 I broke off and he cleared up. I have to add that my break off was right on the baulk cushion. Frame 2 I played a safety up into the baulk area and he agian cleared up. It is very fustrating that I now smash the reds from a break against a top 16 player becuase 9 times out of 10 a red goes in.

Plus all of the main draws start at the last 16 stage instead of the last 32 or 48 stage

                  Well...

if you ever played WSC05 you would think, WSC07 is too easy... I've won the World Championship and if you are focused on that what you do, you could beat everybody, O'Sullivan, Hendry, Davis... And turn off the Autosave Option, then you could start after every lost frame again.
It's much easier to play big breaks in 2007 than in 2005. I play in every match at least 70 Points in my highest Break

that's exactly my opinion. Just play a whole season (WSC 2005) on aiming aid expert, then you know what difficult is.

Haha I just managed to beat Stephen Hendry in the 1st round of the UK Championship 2-0. He didnt seem quite as invincible as when I've played him before and he left shots on with his safety play.

I have new faith in my snooker (console) abilities!!

Well it turned out I won the UK Championship!!! Well chuffed!

I was ranked 32 in the world when I won this, beating Hendry, Doherty & O'Sullivan on the way.

It does seem that as you move further up the rankings the top players seem to make the odd mistake now and again - giving you a bit of a chance. So my original theory kinda stands.

The first few days of playing this I thought I has no chance of winning anything. But sticking with it and moving up the ranks, the top players became more human!

This game is a bloody farce. I have spent over two hours trying to win 1 frame against O'Sullivan and no matter what I do it seems as if the computer stops me from winning. Twice I have missed frame balls that are over the pocket when it is clear that they are going into the heart of the pocket. Then when I get a chance and I play with back spin the ball never reaches the pocket. Also I cannot play a safety because no matter what happens O'Sullivan clears up even if all the balls are very safe. The irratating thing is that it only happens against him!

Haha. Sorry but i find that quite funny. The game makers must have been Ronnie fans.

To make it more realistic maybe they should have times when Ronnie is not interested, sits there with a towel on his head and just plays crap.

Yes I also have a theory that the computer stops you from winning certain frames/games no matter what you do!! (I also have this theory with the Pro Evo Soccer games)

I think its to do with your World Ranking - I think the higher ranked you are the easier it becomes to beat better players. I'm 22 in the world now and Hendry and O'Sullivan miss loads of chances when they play against me......they never used to though.....
