Must confess this new entry to the snooker/pool sim market looks very very impressive. I think it's still in Beta, but rumours suggest it won't be cheap when it's released.
It says 'unlimited offline play' which is all I'd be interested in, but I've read there's no computer opponents. Not even sure there's an offline career mode. If there isn't, then I'll stick with Virtual Pool 4.
"Kryten, isn't it round about this time of year that your head goes back to the lab for retuning?"

It would be good if they let you download a demo so you could see!
A bit surprised to see a gameplay video made by me posted here by someone else! :snooker:
Some comments:
- Released on november
- No career modes, no AI opponents. You can play/practice offline.
- Not very heavy: AMD Phenom 2 x4 2.8GHz and Radeon 4850 1GB it was well playable with ~about the max settings in Full screen mode, laggy in windowed mode. After upgrading GPU to GTX 1060 3GB, frame rate above 120 all the time with maxed out settings in full screen, haven't actually tried the windows mode with current GPU yet.
- Way more difficult, in realistic way, than VP4 because of the aiming view restrictions (3 modes available to choose from)
- For me the sum of great physhics, great graphics and challenging gameplay over-rules the lack of career mode and AI-opponents, online play is "the thing" for me, maybe not for all. This is why I prefer SP over VP4.
- Price: for being a beta tester I didn't pay one cent for the game and one year of online lisence . Like the game so much thou I'm pretty sure that I will buy the new online lisense when the current one expires on november 2018.
- No demo version (at least yet)
- Even the game is released, it doesn't mean its "finished", new features are being done all the time.
The physics and overall 'feel' of snooker seem to have been captured better in SP, but there are many elements in VP4 (mainly extra options and ways to configure the gameplay) that still puts it above SP for me (not to mention the offline/AI tournaments (which is all I play).

Can you elaborate on this, please? What do you mean by only three view modes to choose from?
When you look at the gameplay video, you'll see when I'm cueing I'm not cueing the same way as I (and many more) would be cueing in VP4; the camera/view height is restricted to certain levels above the cue ("none", "half" and "realistic", the one I use is the "realistic"). In VP(4) aiming is more like pushing the view down to table level and use the top edge of the white as crosshair to hit the object ball, making especially long shots unrealistically easy. This restriction creates challenge, the longer distance, the more challenging it is to pot a ball... Or would it be a better idea to play safe than trying to pot the blue from the baulk end. The realistic setting is difficult at first but pretty easy to get used to. For some it sounded to be "hopeless", which I don't agree. Just line up the shot and focus on the object ball / contact point and shoot and you'll start making balls pretty soon. It also makes visualising the shot / seeing the shot / lining up the shot before execution into much bigger role than in VP. There was quite alot of discussion about this on the beta stage when the feature was introduced and the "realistic" being the only option, 2 easier options were added afterwards. Developers made a comparison video about the height: The "realistic" is on the eye level, "half" on the nose level and "none" on the mouth level on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSa2...hf0m9g&index=5

Thanks for that - fascinating video. I honestly had no idea that when I line up a shot in VP4 (always using the top of the CB to touch the base of the OB) that my eyes are actually in my mouth
I'm going to start lining my shots up from a much higher level from now on, because I'm all for realism.
One option I do wish VP4 had adopted from SP, is the option to follow the cue ball after the shot has been played.
Just bumped into user tedisbill's new video here in the "Coaching Questions" section about plant shots in snooker and specifically the squeeze plant or reverse plant as called here(at 5:13 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEFy...youtu.be&t=313 ). Just out of curiosity had to try what happens if I set up the same (or about the same at least) shot in the game.. Voil'a https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5_VfqJOLdE . The default settings in the game are not very good in my opinion, check out the answer in the comments where someone asked about mine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XSFQXeMj-8

Amazing that the game's physics are so realistic you can even squeeze a plant. I was playing a few of these shots on VP4 the other day, and it works just as well on that game too.

Cool, I planned to try the VP4 too with the shot but did get and error saying about the activation of the game. I have installed the game to my pc, also on my laptop and also on win8.1 pro tablet (for testing purposes) and couldn't launch the game on anyone of those. Tried to search my serial from the vponline account too but no success, then did just let it be
