  • Question for those with the WI version

I recently bought the 07 version for the 360 and have been having a blast. I'm awful at the game but like the challenge. However one thing that bugs me is seriously making me consider whether to buy the 09 version when it comes out on the 360. I am currently in my third season and all the AI ranking points continue to climb (as do mine). I've checked the 07 forums and people have posted about winning every tournament for two or three seasons and still not making the top 16!

As far as I am aware the ranking system in real life snooker adds points from the previous two seasons. When a third season starts then those accrued during the first season are then deducted. This means that players ranking points continue to fluctuate (going down as well as up) and an in form player can slowly climb up the ranking table.

So the question I have is thus: What system does 09 for the WI use? I am assuming that the other systems will have the same. Please tell me its something like the system they use in real life and not the system used in 07. To be honest, I doubt I'll buy it otherwise.

I posted this on the 07 forum as well but its all very quiet there now.

Cheers, and any answers greatly appreciated.

      It's a good question ...

I dont know, I have finished several seasons, obviously more than 3 and I am now rank #31. Probably I have to write down the points to know for sure, but that will take a lot of times at the end (3 seasons!). While I play (nowadays) 1 or 2 games per day, even only several frames if I am in the final (best of 7 frames).

Anyway, thats not my concern. The game is still challenging enough. Last night I lost to Stephen Hendry 4-3 (best of 7) on Shanghai Masters final. I predict (with current pace), I will need couple of months to reach #1.

i gather you know that the wii version was 08, not 09, as it was released in november last year. even though the other versions will be 09, the wii is the newest and only edition out yet.
i don't take much notice of the points system, but did have a little look a while ago and noticed that the points for top players were way higher than mine. both myself and snookdude seem to be on rank 31 and i would agree with snookdude that it will take a long, long time before reaching number one. at first, i felt quite confident and was winning loads of games and was sure i would make top 10 quite quickly. however, after a while it told me i had unlocked medium difficulty players, which then started to lose a little confidence. last night it said i had unlocked hard difficulty players and since it has slowed me right down. i will keep an eye for you on points system and write down the top players score after seasons to give you a precise view.
although, even if the points system was to your liking, i would not worry too much. reason being is that the game is very, very, very, very challenging. it's no walk in the park and although myself and snookdude have had breaks of 135 and 141, don't expect too much winning after unlocking the harder players. i have found it's best not to take the game too seriously and just take your time to master. at first, i wanted to have 1 frame games to rush through matches and do as many seasons and touraments as possible. this was because the computer generally made many mistakes. when you improve and unlock the hard players, the computer makes less to no errors and you realise you need to increase the frames and give yourself a chance. it's best to play like snookdude does and play 1 or 2 matches, before having a break. if you don't, you may get frustrated.
i would advise you get this though, as it is a great game and i much prefer using the wii remote as a cue, instead of pressing a button on a controller. it just feels more indepth and more realistic to get involved. i don't know if you have tiger woods 09, but it's got that sort of appeal. i had the other tiger woods games and when the wii version came out, it felt so much better actually swinging the the wii remote like a golf club. that's just the same feeling with wsc 08 on wii, it's just different and more interactive than the rest. pressing a button sitting down all the time, makes you feel really lazy. playing this is like on tv, take a seat while you opponents playing and then stand to line your shots and play as you would for real.
let us know if you decideto buy, but i am sure me and snookdude will let you know the points as we progress, just incase your still unsure.
