  • wow!!!!!!!
i'm feeling really quite pleased that i opted for the wii version 08 back in november last year after all these comments.
despite a few minor issues, i found and still find it great and well worth the money. i have never been bored with it and always said that i prefer the motion sensor cue action much more interactive than sitting on my back side for a whole match.

graphics are fine for me and proves that fancy ps3, xbox or pc graphics ain't nothing compared to gameplay. the gameplay is improved with motion cue sensor action as it makes things very interesting indeed. as an example, some say this is easy for clearing, but with the wii you can make a slight error with judging your power rather than setting an exact power and never being wrong.

i have never really been bothered with online as it's the computer that's going to be available 24/7 and need the games 1 player mode to be the main attraction. so allthough the wii has no online, i ain't bothered considering the views on these online problems and lack of opponents.

everyone has got there views on which was the best version and i'm just pleased that i got the only 08 version made for one system and didn't have to wait!

i'm sticking to what i got thanks!!!!!

    • Hi-
I moved from WSC07 on PS2 to Real09 on xbox360 and I would generally agree thats its just too similar to the previous version.
Like others have said, the commentary is basically identical (they even mention the old WSC by name...). I kind of wonder if the entire budget got blown on the tech for the Wii version.
I like the shot aids from WSC, but feel they could've been tweaked to improve them. I do still like the idea that the game is about positioning and planning the break -- it can never be 'real' snooker unless there is a virtual cue like the Wii (but better than a toy version...).

And the player's stance + cue tip animations are the same as 07, with the same problems. The cue tip breaks the immersion for me, it never hits with the correct angle or spin, so important to the game.

But, before I sound too negative:

After playing using 'Classic' controls for a couple of days I thought I'd try the 'Real' mode, and I am converted! I find it much more immersive, and it feels more like the approach you take in a real game. Oh, and I'm better in Real mode! I suppose the change is quite subtle, but I approach the table more naturally, plan the break better, and use the top down view less (still have to use it if the aiming arrows are obscured or not helpful enough ).

And the graphics are nice and sharp now.
So, although I am disappointed with the lack of advances over 07, I am still enjoying it.

      cheers,
      barry.

      • Anyone on PS3 able to play a full game online?

Because many of us can;t and I susepct it may be to do with port forwarding issues, have tried to configure my router to have PS3 as DMZ...will report oif any success...if anyone can recommend any other ports to open that I might not have already feel free! We get cut off within minutes of a frame starting online...

That link just looks over saturated, could achieve the same effect by tweaking some settings on the PC (like gamma).

For me the graphics are the least of this games worries (though player models and stances could be better).

Look closely at the video. The detail of the cloth is higher (chalk marks, etc) and the shine on the balls is more realistic. The PC version appears to have neither of those! Either Blade have followed EA's retarded example and given the PC inferior gfx, or those videos weren't made at maximum detail.

Just been playing on the PC to compare, still think it looks better here than it does in any of those videos. Though the 360 one is hard to judge, seems to have some motion blur added in places, and some sort of post processing (satuaration + softening).

The chalk marks appear on the table as the game goes along, plus setting AF as high as possible makes the cloth look really good.

I usually play at 1440x900 (native res) all high on my laptop, to take some screenshots I whacked AF to max and AA to 8x. Game looks even better, and runs the same! Was a pleasant surprise.

Well, i guess that what it's all about. Some will find the game rubbish and others will enjoy it anyhow. The fact is that it is a videogame and not snooker in real life. Although the creators tried to simulate the game as good as possible, there will always be some imperfections. The most enoying are the major bugs that haven't been resolved, like the poor save function for example, which was already the problem in WSC 2007. Those things are more important to me then the way players are cueing and how the balls against the cushions sound.
Anyhow Blade should take the time to read the comments and feedback of their customers and resolve the minuses of the game and improve it for future versions!

I enjoyed 2007 anyhow, so i will also enjoy 2009 despite the lacks. But it is important indead that future versions will have to improve in order to keep the WSC series alive! If not, more customers will pull out.

So would you say it looks as good as the Xbox 360/PS3 on the PC? It should do, there's no excuse as the PC is easily capable of anything the consoles are (that's what scaleable gfx are for).

Also, I haven't got 2007 or 2005, so would you say this one is worth me picking up? I know I don't like the aiming method as it isn't realistic, but the game can still be fun and I really like the look of the career mode this time around. How many real players are in it altogether by the way?

Would you post some screenshots that you made, so I can judge for myself?

There are a couple of minor niggles too with the real 09

Upon seeing the youtube videos that that guy was posted don't get me wrong its decent, but when you aim to put back spin on the cueball why does the cue aim to produce top spin?

I think the Audio sounds for the balls are a bit flimsey they should of been like the ones in the video that blade posted

And as well as the pocket sound. From what I see in the video that that guy has posted it's no were near perfect?
Ah, great memories. Other then VP3 no other game has come close. What's wrong with a thin white line. Probably afraid to upset the junkies.

                      • They could include it as an option, similar to how racing sims include arcade/sim handling!

Hello, Blade?? Are you listening? Doubt it, somehow. At least I've got my 6ft table to play on.

                        • Had to manually adjust the gamma and saturation on this picture, as the print screen picture appears much darker than the actual game image.

I'll sort that issue out tommorrow, this should give a general gist though.

Still doesn't look as it should, but I'm off to bed now.
