      • WSC real 09 (XBOX360) region locked ... Only released for "EU" region code ... not for US, not for Asia ... Why??????????

Marco Fu, Ding Junhui, Liang Wenbo, Liu Song, China Open, Shanghai Master .........
I cannot believe if Blade not plan to release this game for Asian console.

        • I am running Vista SP1 and have a ATI Radeon X1200 graphic card. Although the starting sequence shows ok, when it comes to the menu all I get is a black screen and the mouse pointer. Are there particular settings I need to get this to work? I will be well p'd off if I have spent my well earned money on a game I am unable to play.
          Cheers

That's PC version yes? Looks quite good.

Will you be acting upon them though? That's the question.

Edit: Does anyone know if the sound files can be modded? It's usually possible with games these days and there are some sounds that need to go, such as the sound of the ball hitting the cushion.

This is how the aiming aid should be (as an option, at least):

            • Thanks for fixing the image for me, lol Was late at night!

Btw, the game looks better than in that image, for some reason using printscreen to get the image seems to kill the lighting partially. Doesn't do that for any other game, so just a weird anomaly.

Agreed re: aiming line though! Would love that style. Perhaps some user definable parameters for things like cushion speed would be good too. VP3 had all of these things.

              • I have a 360, pulled an all nighter on this game last night. When i left is I quit 3-1 up in the first round of the Shanghai, Am I right in believing that I will now have to start that match from scrath again. Also does that mean I will lose my high break, which occured in that match!!!

                • Well dusted down the PS2 after all these years(!) and loaded up WSC 2005 and here is what I found

                  Major positives

                  1. Save game when you want to save.

You have the option at the end of each frame to save. No autosave needed etc. Also you can quit the match you are in without going to dashboard and can reload match when required

                  2. Can reload matches in progress

None of this if save and quit during match, reloaded back at 0-0. I could see from my last save, I last played this game 28/8/06 at 14.02 and when I loaded it up, I was playing Stevens in the British Open quarters, the score was 2-2.
I played out the game and won 5-4, it was great playing.

                  3. Correct player animations

I have commented to death about how in this version player always bends over properly to address the table with cue usually fairly close to chin when cueing etc

                  4. Correct use of rests

Again have commented loads about how player will always use rest/spider in correct situation, and none of this ambidextrous/lets play shot with cue about 1 foot to the side of me to avoid using rest scenarios

                  5. Different aiming aids.
How good was it to play with expert aiming aids. This option allows me to play at a reasonable pace, but unless in A1 position, potting becomes a real challenge, forcing me to play safe more etc
Also the blue aiming aid is more distinctive in 05, whereas in 09 I found it hard sometimes to tell how much power the cue ball had applied to it etc

                  Minor positives

                  1. Tour mode
This is pretty identical to WSC Real 09, apart from Golden Cue and 8 Ball pool. The snooker tour is basically the same

                  2. Different referees
I have forgotten about this but you get 2 different refs in WSC 2005. Only minor but nice to see implemented

                  3. Tour Progress
In this game, Blade allows you to decide before each match if you want to watch AI v AI games. Whilst 99.9% you don't want to do this, at least this option allows you to track a tournament once you are out, and see who reaches the later stages, and maybe watch the final if you so wish etc

So I have listed numerous things which imo Blade got close to being spot on in 05. All these things however have been removed in 07/09 versions. Why this is shall remain a mystery

I desperately wanted to love WSC Real 09, and to those who do enjoy it I envy you, I really do. I wish I had the same feeling of satisfaction when I played it but the issues won't allow it

but theres a couple of issues for me,

it seems you can't have a look at you're shot from a different angle like you could in 07 when you would press L1 i think and you would be able to see it from two different angles, when i discovered how to do that it improved me big time so not being able to do that means il be rubbish methinks,

looks like interest in online is not existent as usual, have made a 9 ball room and have been waiting 40 mins for someone to appear, although its still early days i know

doesnt appear to be any major 9 ball tournaments because i was looking at locations while setting up my online game, no major 9 ball venues at all while all the snooker halls were playable, il have a look though

why on earth have they got this 8 ball season, does anyone prefer 8 ball over 9 ball, im not so sure, you can tell im a 9 ball fan

on the plus side the menus look very nice and the graphics have improved, the new shot system will take a while to get used to, despite this very negative post im still happy with it overall and will now start my career, still a little afraid of online being as unpopular as last time
Being a County 8 ball player.I know 8 Ball Pool is the most widely participated activity in the UK. It is FAR better than 9 ball, I just wish they have reds/yellows as opposed to Spots/stripes.

There are a couple of minor niggles too with the real 09

Upon seeing the youtube videos that that guy was posted don't get me wrong its decent, but when you aim to put back spin on the cueball why does the cue aim to produce top spin?

I think the Audio sounds for the balls are a bit flimsey they should of been like the ones in the video that blade posted

                      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ignq9IefmFE

And as well as the pocket sound. From what I see in the video that that guy has posted it's no were near perfect?
If you hit the cue ball lightly, you can hit the lower part of the ball and it will run forward, this is known as stun run through and is perfectly natural. That explains your Topspin question.

                      • I think what he meant is the player cues the top of the ball regardless of the spin applied.

Hold on, a stun run through is normally a punch shot with slightly above centre striking. LOL You can get the same effect by hitting the cue ball lightly just below centre, but the ball rolls over the cushion instead of skidding like with a stun shot.

As already mentionned elsewhere, it is not possible to save during a match. You will have to finish your match and then it is autosaved, and you can resume your career where you left off. If you save during a match and quit the game, the score is reset to 0-0 and you will have to start your game allover, as in 2007.
