    Hi All.

Just qualified for first tournament, Shanghai Masters beating Ian Hirst 5-0, Rodney Trundle 5-0, Jamie Cope 5-1 and Ken Doherty 5-1 and got 1900 points and £4275 prize money.

Voiceover coach says there are 5000 points available for the tournament so it looks like going up the rankings will be quicker thank God! Beat Stuart Bingham 7-2 and am 5-0 up over Gerard Greene, Selby in Semis and Ronnie in Final if I get that far.

Got my first 147 , I think its the media section that says pot all balls from the break, that's actually a total clearance of 15 red plus colours then the colours in sequence that's needed to unlock that!

You can get stat points for doing the challenges, im getting potting to say 25, then position and spin then cue power, then the rest! You can still play well with poor stats, got back to back total clearances against Gerard Greene, 2 50s in one frame, an 95 which should have been a century and 3 centuries including my 147 so no need for anyone to lose hope due to starting with crap stats!

There's also unlocks for doing 5 seasons, and winning everything in one season and getting to world number 1 for longevity which I like!

I'll keep everyone updated as to the unlocks as I progress!

Over the weekend I unlocked the achievements for all tutorials done, trick shots and challenges. The only one I found a pain was the Super Plant which I eventually did after about 10 attempts.

    Also won the Pool championship.

    I'm on 395/1000 so far!

Thanks for the update rog, well done! I found I couldn't do some of the challenges and trick shots due to having poor swerve stats, I'll come back to them though! Clear out 2 (where the blue is on the baulk cushion) is one im having problems with, thought of all sorts including doubles and trebles but can't seen to pot the blue and get on the pink, I'll try soon, I've updated my potting stats since, I had about 50 goes at it, very frustrating!

I'm in the final against ronnie of shanghai 2 all, beat gerard greene 7-0 and selby 8-1 from 1-0 down in last 2 matches, the worst thing he could have done was get a century opening frame! lol Ronnie's quite hard, he hardly misses at all, less than anyone else, expected though!

I'll note down any points and prize money I get, it would be great to know the points and prize money structure for losing at different stages and whether it varies from tournament to tournament!

I'm also noting down my centuries, match scores and other achievements for my reference so I can get the information right on the unlocks! I still want a 210 break in Snooker Plus! lol

Got my first 147 last night against Jaime cope in the Grand Prix final!

God it was so nerve racking. About an hour before I was on the last red when I totally got out of position and no tweaking of top spin, back spin, side or power would allow me to get to the final red that was along the cushion. Gutted. Anyway an hour later and from Jaime Copes bad break off I got in and split the reds nicely. It wasn’t straight forward though as at one point the black couldn’t be re spotted and had to be placed behind the pink! Thankfully I managed perfect position to allow me to pot it on the next shot AND clear the black spot. Phew. Awesome feeling though when I actually did it. I cannot imagine the feeling doing it for real. It really does make you appreciate how hard the real thing is and what skill those guys have.

Oh and for info I haven't added ANY skill points to swerve yet, although my positioning is maxed out at 100 and my potting is 70ish.

wow rogwilco, you've been playing a lot! lol my stats are all 1s and 2s apart from potting which is now 20. Just beat Ronnie 10-6 in Shanghai Masters Final, got 3,100 points and £190,725 prize money, got a 147 though so probably about £159,000 (like in 07) is due to that!

Got my first 147 in my 4th match against Ken Doherty after getting to 112 and missing the final red earlier in the match! It is nerve wracking for sure on the first one, on 07 I got over 100 so for a while I was expecting to score them when I got past 64!

Got 6 centuries against Ronnie, a 94 which should have been one, another 90 and a couple of 60s, he does pot ridiculous reds though! My new nickname is Two's Company! lol

Now I'm in qualifying for the Masters, Ronnie Hendry are meeting in 1st round in opposite half of the draw to me too, that helps a bit! lol

Currently on 22 centuries, scoring more and playing better than I did on 07 when I started for some reason!

            Good luck everyone

I'm now in round robin format for Grand Prix, 8 groups of 6 players, first to 5 in each match. I played one qualifier for the round robin stages (best of 5, first to 3) which I was pleased with, apparantly you get 3,000 for qualifying through the round robin and 6,500 for winning the knockouts, longish tournament but its great for ranking points!

Currently ranked 40, nice to see the rankings are more realistic, can't wait for the online patch for ps3 either!

It's impossible to get into the Pot Black Cup in your first season, got my third 147 in a Masters qualifier against Ali Carter too!

I'll keep everyone updated when I progress from round robin stages!

breakman - how are you so good at the game!?! I can usually get thru qualifiers, but usually 1 mistake in a tournament and the cpu player kills me. Any tips?? lots of safety?

It's mostly playing safe and then taking on a riskyish pot, long reds, then learning how to split packs so that you leave 1 or more reds to be on when you split them, like ronnie and stephen hendry do.

I also work out how many points are on the table, like pros do, red plus black = 8, times by number of reds on table, then add 27 for your colours, so 5 reds is 67, 8 is 91, 7 is 83, 9 is 99 etc, 8 times tables basically plus 27. This way you can work out if you pot say, 2 more reds and blacks or 2 reds with a black and a pink whether you'll need an awkward red to win the frame.

It's a good idea to try and leave an easyish red for frame ball due to the pressure decreasing the aiming aid aswell, another tip I use is not to worry about getting 'pro' position, distance isn't a factor in the game, just get the correct angles, for example if you're straight on a red, the blacks tied up, so is pink and u can't get cue ball above the blue to get back to the reds, screw back to leave it quite straight and long into the corner.

Cannons are tough, you need to aim to the left of the ball you want to hit, the spin will take effect and you'll at least hit the ball you want, experiment with aiming more or less past the ball depending on results. If the balls on a cushion you need to aim above by a balls width or so to get cannons. Using this you can split packs earlier after you pot the first long red, a fraction back spin and loads of power, not screw, catch the end red half ball or so, aim to hit it full ball and you should develop 3 or 4 reds

My last tip I can think of is to develop tough reds early if its quite easy to stay on a red, if you have red over pocket or quite pottable near a pocket and a red on the cushion above it, develop the red on the cushion with medium pace to stay on the red over pocket.

Hope these tips help, I'm still learning, I haven't lost yet, played 13 matches, 31 centuries, 3 147s and a tournament win, (Shanghai Masters). Using these tips I lost 4 times in 20o matches on the 07 version, got over 100 maximums and 870 centuries (I'm noting them down for this version too), it's possible to play above pro level with poor stats at the start, increase potting, position and cue power first.

                  Good luck!

                    Great tips! many thanks.

Yup, you cant treat distance like you would on a real table. Long pots, where the taget ball is nearer the pocket, are easy in the game. And you mention long straight blue to the corner, you're right that it feels like a risky shot but the success rate is very high. I still find middle pockets tricky, catching the lip too often.

I will try to split the pack better, I reckon that is one thing I am missing. I've got stuck in the pack a few times, sounds like I should always power thru it (no top spin?).

Your tip to develop tough reds early is something I will try -- that prob applies to the real game too. OTOH, I usually think I will grab the points while I can... before that b*stard cpu player clears up again !

But, you must be v good to get those stats!

Freeing a red after potting a red is considered by pro's as not so good, as you often loose position on the next color by doing so...

well, I'm definitely improving, just got a 138 clearance! Freed a few reds early on, not crazy power just nudging out of the pack. A couple of long blue/pinks. I think patience was the main key, to always spot the sensible shot.

Nearly had a 147. Potted the final pink but was overambitious with the final pink and went in off 3 cushions. Gutted. In my defence, the positional circle wasn't over any of the pockets
                          screw it

Yeah it is but its only to be done when you're, barring miracles or a huge misjudgement, gauranteed to be on a red, i don't do it often! lol

Last qualifier in grand prix, 4 out of 4, played hendry and higgins too, won both 5 -1, stephen lee's quite good, doesn't miss much when i play him, 3 centuries and im 3-2 up, i'll outscore him or grind him down with sensible matchplay! lol

I'm thinking the knockouts will be same as always (best of 7, then 7, then 8, then 19) on accurate settings.

I've found that certain players (stephen lee pushed me to 7-5 twice, and mark williams, beat him 5-4 in a qualifier) always seem to play well against me for some reason! Anyone else find this?

Yeah it is the key, always make breakbuilding as easy as possible, even if the shot is difficult, leave position as easy as possible and trust your long game.

It's important to study the table early on if there are lots of reds close and identify reds blocking others and how you're going to clear these key balls, even if it takes you ages you'll get quicker over time
