Is there a way to find out your highest break?
I think I've only made a 139 and find it very difficult to maintain staying on the black for all the reds, what is anybodys tips on this?

I have 3 x 147s from 20 years ago, one of them against a pro in a practice session but I haven't had any recently (I gave the game up for 10 years and started again in late 2005).

I've been working a year now to recapture my old form but it is a very hard slog. I'm getting centuries every once in awhile in practice but have none in matchplay as yet.

Today, I had a practice session with a mate and the best in 10 frames was just a 79 (missed the 2nd last red down the cushion to the yellow pocket). It would have been a nice 122 if I had hit that red a little slower as I just wobbled it.

I normally count my score to myself in my head as here in Canada it's very rare to find players who will either count their opponent's score or in a lot of cases even spot his colour balls!

My matchplay high break is a 138, but again that was 20 years ago when I could pot a long ball!

Yeah the game, no way yet I could hit 139 in real life, minus the 1 of the 139 lol!

I normally count my score to myself in my head as here in Canada it's very rare to find players who will either count their opponent's score or in a lot of cases even spot his colour balls!

My partner and I make a routine courtesy of respotting the other's balls and reciting the score audibly as played, not unlike a live professional match. I tried to do that with a random gent in Shooter's Snooker Club a week ago and he flipped out, accusing me of rigging the score because I won. I thought people in Canada were nice

I normally rely on the opponent to keep check, I think worrying about your break can put you off.

Now that's a VERY GOOD bit of advice. I've tried many 147's using 2, or just one pink or blue, but never arrived - at 145, I run out of balls.

So, staying on the black no matter what might be a tip for a 147. if anything else fails...

First of all, I missed the fact this was for an on-line game and not being a gamer I got off on the wrong foot - an 'oopsy' on my part.

For lux, with many players in Canada you have to ask them first if they prefer to spot their own balls (for instance Alain Robidoux prefers this as I think it help slows him down and fixes his concentration) and also if they want to have their score counted out loud. A lot of players are not used to this and it throws them off, although you have to count their score anyway just to protect yourself.

I don't know too many of the Shooters players but I notice a lot of the snooker players there are from the older generation when gambling was king and of course that lead to all sorts of iffy conduct and gamesmanship. I still see some of that going on in the snooker world in Canada, which is a pity

I find that really strange terry. As you know in England you spot your opponents balls as it is considered bad conduct not to. also the times i have had a go at my oponent for not counting my score out loud. A prime example was the english amuter last year some teenager just sat their with a glum face caus he had barely potted a ball whilst i was at the table. I stopped halway through my break and said Finlay as this was his name count my F***ing score out. Well he did and he lost 4-0 lol. All i want to be doing is concentrating on getting on the next ball without checking they are adding my score up right in their head. My practice partner made a 146 in a comp and this old fart didnt keep count luckily i did not hard to count a 146 mind you lol
