As usual, I have no idea what you are talking about. Not really, I mean.
As long as I have been in this forum, I have been trying to give reputation points to some of you. No success so far. I got some cryptic hints as often as I tried. Finally, I gave it up. So, when you don't have enough positive reps, it's my fault.
I hadn't known about the negative points. Dear me, what are they good for.?Men play the game, women know the score

Complete mystery or I am having a dumb moment. So I go to my cp and take a look at the list of threads I posted messages in. How can I see the message that got me the rep? Because I've just discovered the rep button -doh! - and I am curious.S.P.I.L.F.

Some interesting thoughts here.
I personally think rep has its place. Ultimately it doesnt matter, there are no prizes for positive rep and negative rep alone won't get you a banning. Hopefully though it provides some small motivation for being helpful, and it's the only real way we have of rewarding the actual content of a post. I don't see that it does any harm. If you don't like it, it's small enough to ignore.
About negative rep being moderators-only, I think most of our members are capable of using it reponsibly. You do see 'rep wars' on other forums but I'd hope and do believe we're above that on here. If anyone is getting a significant amount of unjustified neg rep, please let me know and I'll look into it.
My one issue with it is that on a relatively small forum like this one, we shouldn't have to spread it around to as many members before repping the same person again. If someone writes two incredible posts in the space of a week, I feel I should be able to rep both of them without repping everyone else in between. I can't remember the number exactly but it's something like 15 or 20, in my opinion it should be more like 5. Any views on this?
Just to answer a few of the technical questions.
For anyone who hasn't found it yet, you can see your rep on the first page of your control panel ('My Panel') here, under 'Latest reputation received'.
Green = positive
Black/grey = 'neutral' (given by people who don't have any rep power. It won't be upgraded to green if they ever gain rep power unfortunately)
Red = negative
Right next to the coloured blob is the title of the thread the rep was received in. Click the link to see the specific post.
Incidentally, I got my first negative rep last week, (for this post Edit - Ah, it was given at 1am, on November 9th, our phantom neg-repper strikes again ).

I just noticed I got 2 positive reps this month, I'd like to thank the person(s) who did this for me. (The audiences all over the world who did me this honour, my director and producers, my supportive family and God! )
I am afraid my positive rep has no value for the time being, since I don't have enough posts yet. Which makes me angry (to put it in a nice way). I'm afraid I have to admit it'll take me a while more to become red, since I joined this board as a learner of everything related to snooker and not a connoisseur and I really feel awkward giving my opinion when I don't know enough on a topic.
Anyway, I noticed that there is some space for comments when repping somebody and I couldn't help thinking, if one wants to "sign" a rep, can't that be done in that space? (eg: "I agree 100% - NINA") ??

Regarding the space by the reps - that is for comments as you say but it seems many people like to leave them blank and also remain anomynous."You can shove your snooker up your jacksie 'cos I aint playing no more!" Alex Higgins.

As for keeping anonymity, of course that is to be respected. I was just thinking if something can be done by those who want to sign their rep (and I expect that to happen with positive repping only, for obvious reasons.)

Just keep all your reps until in a few more posts.
Recently, I started to sign the reps I gave out, as I thought, that one likes to know, where pos. rep comes from and also people might want to return the favor.
Other than that, I would really also see the amount of people one has to rep, before the same person can be reped again, reduced. 20 is quite a big amount in such a small forum. It would also help if one could see, whom one had reped already.

I can't help wondering why my opinion will value after 50 posts more than it does now though...
Thanks again for the positives I have received, it seems I have been doing sth right these days...
As for the amount of people you have to rep before you can go back to the same person, 20 is indeed a lot! But I gather this was intended to keep friends from repping (+) each other 10 times in a row - the not-so-friendly ones (-) too I guess...
