What is a cut break? Why is it frowned upon?
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
    I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

Its not frowned upon, its allowed. I think it was just a gentlemans agreement between all players before this years mosconi cup not to do it.

      Cut break --

The cut break is a controlled medium power shot, one tip of draw and half a tip of outside english. The cue ball should come off the side rail and out into the centre of the table. The wing ball (and balls behind the wing ball) will be squeezed into the corner pocket and the one ball will come off the side rail and up towards the top pocket.

Why did the players agree not to do it? Does it slow the game as the balls are in poor position following the break or what?

Earl Strickland is one of the most detestable people imaginable. I loved seeing Karl Boyes celebrating right in his face .

If he's mentally ill then they should do us all a favour by giving him a lobotomy. Unfortunately he's not, he's just an utter ****.

Yep, pretty embarrassing isn't it? Neither players or commentators bat an eyelid when it happens, it seems to be the accepted thing.

Been a laugh reading all the excuses that alot of American fans have been coming out with.

just a few ive read and heard,

its unfair because we have more players to choose from because we have all of europe and they only have usa. another was saying European players that live in america (ie Darren Appleton & mika immonen) should be representing them. Another was because the Americans are money players not tournament players.

the excuses go on and on

Just finished watching it on youtube and I have to say that the US players really need to learn to control the cue ball better if they are to compete on the so called tighter tables with restrictions on the break.
Man if those tables are supposed to be tight then just how easy are the normal tables.

Strickland was an utter embarassment and was looking for an excuse to lose every time he went to the table. He came into the match with an excuse already taped to his left arm and simply looked for more.
One would have thought that his own team members (I wouldn't use the word mates) would have had more than a quiet word with him. Van Boening had his hearing aid turned off and totally ignored the man when partnering him, now there's team spirit for you.
I don't understand how he's managed to live so long.

Trouble is that most americans are brought up on the american dream as an individual succeeding against the odds, and such individuals can't rally together as a team. There's no room for anyone like Strickland in any team, he's all about himself and is the basest representative of my argument you could find.
