I know pro cup white balls are slightly heavier than normal cue ball but does anybody know if the rest of the balls are? Friend bought a set and swears that they are heavier than normal aramith balls but I cant seem to find out if thats true, the reds are deeper colour and black now stripey but heavier? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Super-Aram...item48682fc857 Thanks for any replies.

The balls are a more consistent weight I.e. Made to a tighter tolerance and are made from a slightly different material which reacts in a different way to the normal balls.Did you put my "1" up ?

This is quite interesting regarding the weight of the white ball

I think this quote says it al really,
"I think the one thing we have learnt is that because the weight of the plain cue balls varies so much, then it is pointless to be bothered about the extra weight that red spots may or may not add to the cue ball".Did you put my "1" up ?

Yes, read that article before but I think he has just taken random old cue balls out of any set of balls from different manufacturers, I would doubt if you took a dozen new sets of Aramith Premiers that there would be much difference in weight of the cue balls or object balls. I only have 2 sets of each to test, so its hardly scientific but when I weighed them both sets of Premiers weighed the same and both sets of Pro Cups weighed the same and both sets of Pro Cups were a few grammes heavier.Last edited by rdsalt; 20 June 2014, 08:28 AM.

Had a quick weigh at lunchtime, as I said its only 2 sets of each so its nowhere near enough for an accurate result and it could just be coincidence but both sets of my Pro Cups are heavier than the Premiers, you are only speaking about 1-2% difference though, I doubt normal players would notice any difference in weight when playing.
Premier set 1 = 1837g
Premier set 2 = 1850g
Pro Cup set 1 = 1868g
Pro Cup set 2 = 1877g

The ProCup balls certainly do seem to be heavier than other balls, but maybe it's the different composition that makes them noticeably different in the way they play. I certainly wouldn't think that a gramme or two would make a noticeable difference. After all, difference between normal club snooker balls and Tournament Champion/3G/IG sets is considerably more: 141gm or thereabouts compared to about 125 or 127gm for normal balls.

Yes, some players say they notice a big difference playing with the spotted white, unfortunately I'm not a good enough standard to comment on that. I think the problem could be that the balls are mixed, ie using a Pro Cup cue ball and standard Premier balls as its much cheaper than a full set of Pro Cups, so you are using a cue ball with a different composition from the rest of the set.
