One is black ebony, the macassar one has streaks of brown in it

Yup, fed up of seeing macassar ebony to be honest, i would have thought plain ebony on the champion would have been more common, apparently not.

Why does everyone want a champion cue? Are they nice to play with? I have seen some on ebay and they are around £250.

not many are stiff enough for modern game id say, i have owned 5, found only one to play well.
most have too much flex in shaft.

think collectors after them again putting price up
