  • Case Making

I'm toying with the idea of trying to make a leather case. It seems fairly straight forward in my head apart from how to do the ends.

Does anyone know how they do it? Is it just folded over or cut in a particular way?

    Cheers

I haven't made a case (yet), but have made a few satchels and other stuff... Look on leatherworker.net for some amazing work.

Cheers, It seems as though wetting the leather may help

Depends on the leather, mate - A thick 3 or 4mm veg tan leather can be wet-formed easily, but treated leathers may not.

Ok, the leather i've been looking at is 1.2mm thick. What would you suggest?

That's pretty much upholstery leather - You'd really need to use that over something else (I.e. wrap a harder inner case with the leather)

Unless you want a really floppy, foldable case?

Sorry, I should have been more specific with my original question. I want to make a wooden carcass and then cover it leather. But I'm having trouble thinking of how to do the ends of the case. As it seems it is normally stretched somehow.

                Aah...
The leather would be stretched round the edges, fixed in place and then an inner liner would cover the fixings.

Thats what i thought but, I would like to make a very slim case, which means there isn't much space internally and there will be quite a lot of bunching in the corners from the excess.
