  • Original EJ Riley "the special club" cue - worth it?

Hello all – was wondering if anyone has any thoughts or experience with using an antique EJ Riley "the special club" cue and its potential value?
I have an antique restored EJ Riley Snooker/Diner table and I’m looking to buy my first proper 1pc cue to go with it and I’ve just happened to find an old EJ Riley cue being sold that could complete the collection.
The guy selling it wants £50. Is it worth it? I’ve not been able to try it but the owner promises that it's dead straight.
The cue is 57in length and approx 16.4oz in weight. Apparently originally 17.05oz so no doubt tapered at some point to achieve a smaller tip size. Tip approx 8.5mm and in decent condition, it seems.
    Thanks in advance
    Wes

I’m not sure about the value of this cue but if you’re going to play with it an 8.5mm tip is small for snooker. Of course that might be the spec you prefer .
£50 for any half decent cue is cheap but only if it fits your requirements .

If you decide you don’t want this cue I’ve got an old EJ Riley Tombstone cue that is surplus to requirements.

If to you £50 is an ok price then I would go for it
I would say it is not worth much, so for your collection and matching your table, maybe negotiate down a bit

Weight: is there a stamp that looks like 17 OZ but in reality is it 16.4 oz; I would say that possibly it has not been modified as in the old days the stamped weights were notoriously "wide-ranging"

As mentioned above 8.5mm is a bit small for snooker and most older cue were not that small generally, but you never know

Thanks for the advice Dean. I'll check regarding the stamp and good to know about the tip size that you and Starsky have mentioned.

I like your sense of humour !

Im in South East London/Kent borders.

I had some work done on it to make it a spec I preferred , length 57, weight 18 oz , tip 9.5.

If your interested in the cue drop me a PM and we can discuss cost 😉
