  • Oil or wax?

Hi there, I have come across an old Cannon cue with lots of chips etc in the varnish on the butt, so with the helpful advice on this forum, I’ve taken all that off with a selection of grits. I’m now looking to refinish it, and am wondering whether cue wax would do as well as oil (I have the Longoni type), or whether that’s just for improving the smoothness of the cue from day to day?

I'm in the middle of doing one now, for me it's always oil but then I put some micro crystalline wax polish (renaissance) on top of the oil (once it's cured) to give the cue a nice shine that isn't sticky on the bridge hand.
Wood wax works very well though and you can get some nice shades to deepen the colour of the shaft to make it look vintage. Good luck
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair

That's pretty much exactly how I treat my cues... linseed oil for the shaft, linseed oil followed by ren wax for the butt

Never tried it m8 but I do have a bottle of friction polish and that works very well for the butt, only applicable though if you have a lathe.

I generally use lots if various finishes for cues but oil for the shaft and a wax for the butt normally after an acrylic sanding sealer. If I'm looking for a conplwte natural finish then oil on the shaft and a wax oil mix on the butt fir a Matt finish

                    Hey guys,

Wax or oil better to fix the grain filler in the cracks?
I refinish my cue once a year this process and my beards sometimes still gets stuck in the cracks.
                    There are two options.

                    1. I'm doing it wrong
                    2. The filler not durable enough and falls out

Won't it be more durable with wax?

Or leave it and buy a maple cue?
