  • Reduction of cue tip size

Hi, I’m looking at purchasing a 2nd hand cue, however the tip size is 9.5mm and I’d like to have it reduced for pool to 8.25. If I was to have this tapered does any one know as an estimate how much this would reduce the weight by. It’s currently 18.2oz. Thanks.

If you Google most of the cue makers and cue doctors they normally have price lists for this type of work.

I was actually asking how much as an estimate it would potentially reduce the weight by? Not how much it would cost.

I could be wrong but re-tapering won't reduce the weight by a notible amount. However it will change the way the cue plays!

I tapered my own cue after having a new ferrule fitted. Or doing it the other way around - simply because no cue maker will make a taper per request. Or at least this has been my experience...

Years ago Andy Travis did a friend's cue for UK pool, reduced to new ferrule, new taper - if I recall 9.5 to 8.5mm.
Any change to the cue's weight and balance was not noticed by my friend.

Ton Praram tapered my cue exactly the way I wanted.

                  That's good to know.
Did you order the cue directly or through the UK agent?

I ordered direct from Praram. I’m not sure if you can do that now since Greenbeize became UK agent. Have to say I gave Praram a very very detailed spec and the cue arrived spot on with everything I asked for. 10/10 for customer service.

Recently, i get the info from my cue maker, if you only sharpen the tip even shaft, your cue's balance and weight would have few changes, good luck!

i belive the weight of european ash is circa (680 kg/m3) so losing 0.625mm each side, over say 225mm of taper would weigh about three parts of nothing.
                        Must practice more!!!
