  • Relation between cue length and balance point.

Kindly, need an advice regarding cue length and balance point.
Well, first there is a relation between cue length and the balance point, we all have read that the perfect balance point is something between 16 to 18 that's not wrong but not a complete explanation, because 16 to 18 is mostly applied to cues long between 57 & 58, and 16-18 not correct if we apply them to cues like 55”,54” or 60”.

So, let’s say 17 is a perfect BP for 57” which is about 30% of the total length, but the performance can vary from cue to cue if we compare two cues have same specs, depending on how dense the cue is and age as well.

The boggling question is, Is the BP at 30% of any cue length will be the best balance point?
For my case, I’m planning to customize a 55” inch cue at this point 0.3*55=16.5.
Am I making sense? Can I adopt these methods? I have to delve into it, to avoid getting an annoying cue.

I think I get your point suhaib.
I have a cue 55“ length and a bp at 16,75“. The feel is nearly identical with the lengths 57“ and 58“, but I had much problems with the length itself and had to search for another cue.
All in all I think your method is useful, but I would speak to the cuemaker before you order a custom cue.

    Regards Paul

BP at 16.75 was it feel forward or backward when you hold it or lift it off the table?

And for the problems with length, had it been when stretching for far cueball or with something else?

      thanks

A more forward balance on any size cue is a preferred by most in my opinion.

I had problems with cueing over the cushion on reds between pink and black. I can’t say exactly why. I get no feel at all in this shots.
it’s obvious that you will need your short extension more often.
after my experience with this cue I don’t recommend a 55“ cue for snooker. Only maybe for kids growing up.
the balance point is slightly forward with 16,75“ from the butt end and I feels like you have „more cue“ in your bridge hand. I hope that makes sense.
