I find Tulipwood has a nice understated look. Didn't know it was disappearing though. Subtle is a very good word, I personally don't like olivewood and would choose tulip.

      me nearest makers are craftsman.
had a maple one made with tulipwood splice (full length maple no butt wood) loved the splice, butt felt like a telegraph pole in me hand, had it taken down and hated it, as didnt feel right tried for 8 weeks to mentally change to it and sold it to a mate at less than 1/2 price. now wish id of found maple 20 years ago.

I also have a Ions cue with four tulipwood splices and four ebony splices.
It looks really fascinating and unusual.

          any pictures ?
am swayed towards tulip, but like the plain look of the olive.

            Made just a minute before...
That is amazing. Sitting here, having a chat, taking a picture and you can see that a few hundred kilometers away in a second....

              cheers
like that, but the tulip on the maple one i sold, was brighter and had a gloss like finish.

The cue is more glossy than visible on the pics.
But is was VERY glossy when i got the cue because it was laquered...
The tulipwood was VERY orange then.
But I like this silk-mat finish more than too shiny.

That is quite nice. I think i prefer single tulipwood splices though. I think tulip comes in different shades from yellowish to red. I'm sure you could ask the cuemaker if it were possible to pick a particular shade you like. It might change colour over time though.
I personally like the deeper darker shade, so if it does darken over time i will be even more happy.
