well to be honest, if you want a "good" cue, your not going to get one on your budget. the sort of money your looking at will mean you can either get a mass produced riley/bce etc, where whats supposed to be ebony is actually painted on. or a chinese cue thats made of actual wood, but made badly. if thats all you want to spend (and i dont blame you if you're only just starting out... think my 1st cue was probably about £20), then it doesnt really matter what you get. just get something you like the look of. if in a few years time you decide your really enjoying your snooker and you want a better cue, then get one then.

alternatively do as some others have suggested and save a bit more money first and get something cheap from someone like craftsman (they have a website).

That's why I suggest getting second hand you'll get more for your money.
I said an old Riley because you wanted something for about £10 because of the postage. ~I wouldn't get a new Riley or BCE for £30 odd. I say look for a £30 second hand cue. Maybe a Peradon if you’re lucky.

shipping alone would kill this you need to look closer to home.

I don't want to take this off topic, nor keep going on about my cue (As it seems I am doing; But literally this is all I have to talk about until I practise and improve past the "beginner" stage).

Anyways, are the Chinese ones really that bad? I paid ~£80 with postage, and never have the seller gone below ~£50. The average is around ~£60 - 65 I'd say (Including postage). The guy seems to have 100% positive with many saying the cue is great.

Is the Chinese thing a stereotype or are they literally all that bad? Just all of this talk on here has started to get me worried. I know all I can do is wait and see when I receive it but I'm starting to get that yucky sick feeling you get in your stomach when think you may have made a bad decision. £80 is alot to me and I'm worried now I've bought an expensive lump of junk!

The seller does (Or at least advertises) a 100% refund (Excluding postage). The only issue is I paid £12.50 postage, and if it costs that to send it back too, then I'd be £25 down.

If the cues really are so bad I think I've made a mistake here... I'm now sort of wishing I'd found this site and asked a few questions first. Seems quite a few independant shops would be able to sort out *something* for £85.

                *Worried*

Lavachild - just read through your other posts.... 'i've not seen one of those "silent knight" cues uove bought in the flesh, but have seen a fe on flea-bay. the photos on there look nicer than some of the other chinese jobbies on there (at least some nice exotic splices that you wouldnd get on some).

i suppose the cheapest uk madw hand spliced cue you could get would cost at least £100, so maybe £80 isnt such a bad price.

at the end of the day though if you play well with it thats the most important thing. I've had cues worth some serious money in the last few years, but if im honest, i can probably play just as well on the odd occasion when I've had to use my missus' cue... a 35 quid chinese one with some noticable filler around the the name-plate.
