  • A&D Billiards hand made cue ?

    Hi,

Has anyone had a cue made by them. What's the quality like ?

is b&w billiards any good for getting a cue custom made to a high standard ?

    Thanks

i got one a few weeks ago while i await a new cue from trevor white and although it does not have my usual splicings that i tend to go for i am verry happy with the way it plays, but i only payed £270 for it and i know you can pay a lot more for one of there cues!
If you do get one can you please let us all know what you think of it ?

      Hi,

I'd never heard of A&D cues, but I just googled them and they look like Mastercraft cues, to be honest. The designs and prices look about the same. However, they might not be ...

Concerning B&W cues, I've seen a couple of them and they're alright, but that's really all. The shafts are OK quality and the woods chosen are nice without being outstanding, but the splicing is awful! Uneven tops and bottoms, differing widths and you can feel the gluelines all the way down. If you get one of the cheaper ones at around £150, you'll be relatively happy, no problem, but if you go for one of the high-end, all-singing, all-dancing ones, then you might not be so happy. Another thing is that the ebony butt cues aren't black ebony, but stripy and if you want BLACK ebony on your cue, then it's £40 - £50 dearer. That was the first time I'd heard of that, but that's the way they work. So, if you want one of their ebony-butted models, then you'll pay as much for one of theirs as you would for a 1 piece ebony butt cue by Robin Cook or Dave Coutts and there's no comparison!!

      Hope this helps.

        Thats a big help !

I think in terms of price Northwest Cues is pretty good. Would u say the quality of there cues is similar to Robin and Dave?

        Thanks. Appreciate it

i would'nt say as good but northwest cues are a bit cheaper than coutts and robin cues. i have owned quite a few northwest cues in my time and they have all been very good cues i bought a 1 piece maple with a king wood splice about 3/4 years ago from the snooker shop in manchester for £120 they have gone up a bit since then but even so you could'nt buy a cuecraft cue for that then very good value for money.

I own a Northwest custom made - its great great player with superb "feel". For me. it Plays much much better than more expensive cues I own (Parris paragon). Top cue and best value for money if you have a limited budget. and Kevin is top guy with good service

You're right, in terms of price Kev is right up there. All of his cues that I've ever seen are players, so on that score you have no worries. However, in terms of finishing he's not in the same league as Dave & Robin at all. His splicing is always very uneven, whereas Dave & Robin take great care to make a cue as well as they can. Dave & Robin's finish is also different league compared to Kevin; they use an oil finish which takes 3 weeks to do correctly so the finish is in the cue. Kevin uses a wax finish which is very basic, but effective.

Personally, I think it's worth the few extra £s for the difference in quality but Kevin's cues play really well anyway, so it's up to you.

                Hope this helps, Keith

No-one's forgotten Mike, but we're talking about cues in a certain budget and, good as Mike is, he's not cheap!!

no sorry i only have 1 cue its an old riley club cue that i had respliced by trevor white the shafts a realy deep golden yellow colour with a plain ebony butt beautiful. but unfortunately i will never sell it . a good idea if you cant afford a top range cue is go to a few of your local working mens clubs labour catholic ect and see if there are any old cue's knocking about that nobody owns anymore (ask before you take) if you can find 1 with a nice shaft just have it respliced like i said thats what i did i payed £5 for the cue originaly and trevor white respliced, retaipered and refinished it for a very good price .the end result was a cue that probably would cost £100s for a fraction of the price.

That's a good idea, if you're lucky enough to find a good'un amongst all the cues that aren't owned by anyone. That is, if you can find any ownerless ones, at all.

there's cues in our club either under the tables or behind the bar that havent been used for 10 years or so just left form old ones dieing off over the years.

That's how i got my current cue.

My Dad used to play at a club, and on the couple of occasions that i didn't have my cue with me I borrowed one out of the rack, next time i went it had no tip on it. Three months later it was still sat there with no tip - my Dad asked around to see whose it was, got no positive response, so I had it.

Its an EJ Riley Joe Davis World Record one Billiards 2501, snooker 146 (it might say Champions Cue - on the plate too - i dont really look at the plate!!). It has served me well for the last 12 years, but once i manage to get a day off from work i am off on the hunt for a new cue.

                              A&D Billiards hand made cue

                              Hi

When you begin shopping for that perfect pool cue, here are a few things to consider.

Often a person will enjoy choosing a certain decorative inlay or color to further personalize their pool cue, but this may increase the price.
