just seen an unusual cue at my local club.if anyone has any ideas or comments i would love to know.first unusual thing was that according to the cue collector this cue was made with ash shaft --this is definatly NOT ash.i think it is maple.second unusual thing is something i have never ever seen before and that is...half way up the shaft are butterfly splices. you only see it on very close inspection the two woods[both maple?] are joined superbly with the "wings" pointing down the shaft towards the ebony butt.any one any ideas?i thought it may have been a repair or alteration.also cue may be up for sale any idea of value.looks like ivory badge but how can i tell?

I would think that the cue hjas been repaired, probably had a split or snapped shaft at some point and had a new part shaft butterfly spliced on. I have seen this type of repair before. Cant think that its ideal.
As for value, with the repaired shaft it would lose alot of its value. If its a normal ivory badged Peall record cue then in good condition it would only fetch £70-£80 on ebay. With the repaired shaft I would think youd struggle to sell it for more than £40. I would be interested in buying it to take the badge off as I collect badges and thats all thats really worth anything on this cue.
