  • please help in picking a new cue

    Hi,

I am looking for invest up to £400 on a new snooker cue.
I would appreciate if you could share your thoughts on your favorite cue and what would be the best investment.

Who is considered the best manufacturer? John Parris? Craftsman? Stamford? Maybe someone else?

I am looking for a 3/4 butt jointed cue.
Could someone also explain how splices play a role in picking a cue? What is important when it comes to splices?

    Thanks in advance
    Nir

splices dont really play any role in a cue besides the way it looks, but sometime that can help your confidence if you feel good about your cue it can only have plus points towards your game. As for the brand/maker all of the above are very good, i have a new John Parris and cant complain its perfect for me in every way! stamford though are very good and not to be forgotten as is trevor white his cues are up there with the very best!! craftsman are good if your looking for a slightly cheaper cue but still nice cues

The best cue maker is a matter of opinion I say Will Hunt. Lots of people on here may have various opinions on this and may say Trevor White, Wooldridge, Parris etc.,
This is something that there is no real answer too because they can all make good ones if they put there minds to it.

Most everyone should make you a decent cue for 400....Though some top brands might cost a bit more for their best.
You could spend a lot less and still get a nice cue say from North West Cues and you could get a decent one for around £250 maybe less.

The cue maker Trevor White also on this forum has a waiting list longer than the M1 apparently so you might be just as well buying off a dealer in cues with a good reputation like ADR147 who is himself on this forum if you look though the threads...He has a few brands for sale and could advise you better than most people on choice of cues etc, even if he does not have what you like. This might be better to do rather than take advice of people like me who may have a bias to one brand or another.

            Hi,

Splicing is personal preference and will not effect the performance of the cue. E-mail me the specifications you want on your cue and I'll get you a price for a top notch Cue Craft hand spliced cue.

            e-mail: cueist@genie.co.uk

              Hi,
I would recommend you to try out Hunt & O'Byrne and Dunns.
These two cues is quite popular and Hunt's design is nice and comparable to any high-end cues.
If you would like to try new stuff, maybe you can try Omin. (www.omincues.com)
400GBP can get you a very good cue, make sure you get your hands on different cues and try it out before buying it ..Cheers.

                  Hi Nir,

I will highly advise you to PM Asi from the forum as he is also from Israel.

Asi himself is very knowledgable in terms of what you wanna know.
He will definately be able to provide you with all the answers.
He also own a vast collection of branded cues.m
Maybe if you ask him nicely, he might just let you try them at the privatcy of his own M1 table.

Btw where do you usually play snooker?
Ashdod has a nice & cosy club whereby lots of national players gather weekly to play.

                  Cheers

Nir, what cue are you currently using?
Does it have any splice design?
Do you have any specific cue maker in mind that you wished to have your cue made by?

Every wood has it own density and weigth. thus It will definately affect the natural weigth of the cue without additional lead.

To me, the splices are more to cosmetic.

                        Hi willytan,

I will definitely PM asi to get more info. I also sent an email to John Parris, Mike Wooldridge and Robin Cook. I also tried to contact Craftsman, but couldn't find the contactd email address.
Right now I am using a fairly simple cue: The Williamson Old Millenium quarter joint cue by O’min. It served me will for the past 3 years, but I am ready to upgrade to something more serious.

I usually play in the Tel Aviv area (Scores, Lincoln)

I would recommend you also try 'poolqjunkie' on here, who makes the Aurora brand of snooker cue here in Canada. I use one of his one-piece cues and it's the best cue I've ever owned.

I also have one of his 3/4-butt cues which is a duplicate of my one-piece but haven't started using it as yet since it's in mid-season here and I don't want to switch until the summer off season

I know most players in Israel loves & trust John Parris cues but the price to import it into your country is very expensive due to its VAT.

It will be cheaper for your frd to post it to you from either UK or other countries so you can skip the VAT.

I heard that a simple Williamson O’min also cost a fair bit more than those customed in Thailand.

Feel free to email me cos i might have a cue which may interest you

I just got an email back from Robin Cook saying that he has a backlog of orders to complete, so he cannot take any new orders.
He recommended that I contact him again at the end of March in case I am still searching for a new cue
