  • My new Peradon Oxford cue

My new cue has arrived. Hurrah! (They were delayed at the factory, so I've been waiting a few weeks.)

It weighs in at 17oz, which I think is a good thing, as I never got on with my previous snooker cue which was over 19oz. (And, I also have a very cheap cue... cost me about a tenner when I was barely in my teens, and I always preferred that to the heavy expensive one!)

Of course, until I came on this board, I never even realised that weight made any difference or was significant in any way.

Anyway, it's a Peradon Oxford... I know Peradon get mixed reviews here. It looks great. The tip is 9mm, but not perfectly smooth, so I'm not sure if that will need some sanding.

On the other hand, having not played snooker for several years, and having never been any good at it in the first place, I doubt having a nice queue will make any difference to me! Still, I'm looking forward to giving it a go later today.

before you attempt sanding please ask members for advise, although finishing a cue is not difficult, you still have to know the ins and outs, don't be afraid to ask or go over old threads which deal with this subject.

Thanks for the advice. I have seen the Mike Wooldridge sticky guide, so hopefully I can't go far wrong using that for starters.

The natural weight of 1 pc cues is around 17-18 oz,your cue weight is perfectly fine.
I have also used a Peradon Oxford before, it was one of the best cue I have played with.
All the best with your new cue mate.

I've had a go with it now. I really like it. Playing screw shots feels much more 'natural' and effortless than with my previous cue.

On the other hand, I'm still rubbish and can't pot for toffee!

I wouldn't use anything except the cue papers they make for the job, like these.-

I'd get these if I were you, they're micro-fine abrasive papers and won't damage the cue at all. Chances are as it's a peradon it might have lacquer as a finish which can get sticky, I'd get rid of it using these, this is the last pack on ebay aswell at a bargain price so be quick lol

No lacquer finish. It's lovely and smooth. Presume it's waxed...
