According to his autobiography, Alex used an older Burwat Champion but he lost the cue in 1983 and blames that for his going down the rankings at that time although there were some serious persoanl problems at the same time too.
I can see how the loss of the cue he used right from the start of his career would hurt. Hendry had the same thing happen although Alex doesn't say how he 'lost' his cue.

Terry
does the book make any mention of all the cues that he used?
but in alex's auto biography through the looking glass alex was playing somewhere and in that time he used to catch trains to venues, but had an offer of a lift but could not fit the cue in the car with him so he sent his cue with another person who only had a small car and the cue being in one of them metal cases fell behind one of the seats and it got coulght in the door.
he didnt realise the damage until he started playing with it again and started making noises and the tip end cracked and broke off.
hi everyone i was wondering if any1 new what cue alex higgins used, preferably at the 1982 wc.
thanks in advance .
lisle
HI in the 82 worlds Alex used a burwat champion top three quarter jointed with a wood to wood joint and a rose wood butt he still had the cue last year at a exhibition it had yellow tape tied around to keep the splicings on he had got it back of a old friend .
Just looked at vid not really spliced high. I do think Alex was the first player I saw with a 3/4. I could have been the original Burwat made 3/4 I'm confused now.
When did he sell Jimmy White his Will Hunt?

Hi it is just a burwat top shortend to make it stiffer with a long piece of rose wood used for the butt there is no name on the cue .
I bought my cue from Bob Chandler (previous referree and still coaches in and around Bristol). As it was over 10 years ago i can only partially remember at i was told about the history of the cue....
Something about Alex Higgins & Burwat Champion being the most vague but reading this thread has got me quite excited....
It is a short cue in comparison to most & certainly heavy in comparison to most. 4 splices with (no veneers) of what it think is Rosewood into Ebony. Ash shaft with very straight grain/arrows. It was Bob's cue and he sold it to me as a junior (£20 a week for 5 weeks) as at that stage i showed some potential (turned 18 and it all went to pot, excuse the pun!!).
Could i be the owner of a bit of history?
The cue has a John Parris Customised Cue round badge in the butt, i think he made it into a 2 piece (cut in a place ive never seen another cue cut, right under the chin). It also has a Bob Akers clear joint.
